How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

Fixed the math for you :) I've only recorded my first batch here, but I just bottled my second batch and carboy'ed my third batch Saturday, so... 18,012 + 5 + 5 = 18,022 You know, at 4 feet deep, this would more than fill a circular pool 27 feet in diameter.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well, I brought a six pack of this to a birthday party on Sunday, the first venue where anyone besides me was drinking the concoction, and those who tried it really liked it. It cut through the heat of the Blair's Death Rain potato chips and 3rd Degree Burn Doritos we were eating very nicely...

    Octoberfest Ale Extract Recipe

Yeah I've pretty much had it at 70-75 for the last 6 weeks. I'll just let it sit a few more. I've got other things to drink in the meantime :)

    Octoberfest Ale Extract Recipe

Well, I tried one at 3 weeks in the bottle (Sept 18), and it wasn't carbonated. Maybe a tiny bit, but no where near where it needed to be. I assume this is due to my technique and not the recipe, although I have no idea what I did differently. I suppose it could be the yeast. I had one this...

    Octoberfest Ale Extract Recipe

Just an update: I took a gravity reading at the 10 day mark, and it's just about done: 1.018 @ 64 degrees. I'm planning on bottling this Saturday, which will be the 3 week mark. If I give it 3 more weeks in the bottle, that should put it right about at the start of the real Oktoberfest.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Many many pages ago, Ed tried to repitch onto a leftover cake and found that it went slower. Can't hurt to add another packet of yeast though. Did you aerate well? How long was the previous batch sitting on that yeast? How are you measuring how much the bottled product has used its priming...

    Octoberfest Ale Extract Recipe

Wow nukesquad, that's big for an Octoberfest. I'll be interested to hear how it turns out. What temperature did you keep it at in primary and secondary? The yeast we're both using seems to have a wide range of temperatures it finds comfortable. I decided to go cooler than normal to get as...

    Octoberfest Ale Extract Recipe

I love Octoberfest beers. My first homebrew was an Octoberfest, but it was from a kit. I've recently decided to switch to more advanced recipes. I searched for a good Octoberfest recipe on these forums and couldn't find one that: 1. is an extract recipe (since I am not equipped for All or...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I started reading this thread in mid-June and went right ahead and made a batch on June 22nd, but it was only today that I finally finished reading every post - #1 to #6687. (I swear by all that is holy, if one more person asks how to prime their bottles...) I am officially awarding myself an...

    Advice needed: high finishing gravity

Aww crap. :( There are experts who are expertier than me on this, but I believe the band-aid odor can also come from chlorine in your water. (But then why would that wait 2 weeks to show up? Not an expert...) Is this one of those things that will go away with time and maturation? I hope you...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

By god, I'm going to get through every damn post in the recipe thread if it kills me... at post 1005 now. Do we up the count when we snap on the airlock, when we bottle, or when we're drinking the first final product? :ban: Anyway, I made my first batch on Tuesday (6/22) at 5 gallons...

Beer improves over time. Is this true with IPAs?

So, the way I see it, drink an IPA early and the hop flavor is fantastic, but the other flavors in the beer might not be ready yet. Drink it later, and the hops have mellowed and lost some magic, but the rest of the flavors have matured. So what's the solution? I say dry hop your glass. Who's...

twisting on old twist off caps

On my first batch, one of my bottles was twist off (damn you, Blue Moon!), and I capped it before I realized (I was using a wing capper). I decided to let that bottle be an "experiment". Two weeks later, the cap popped off sometime while I was at my friend's house. I came home to find it on...
