When I transferred it, it smelled just fine. I cant remember if I tasted it or not, but if I did taste it, than it must have been fine or else I would remember it.
So I take it that if it smells fine and tastes fine, than its fine?
Roger that.
I have been making cider for over a year now. I usually start them, let them go a week or so and drink it.
When I first started making cider I made a 5 gallon batch. That was over a year ago. I wanted to age it and just let it chill.
To be fair, because it was over the period of a year...
I have been looking on here for a while, and I have not found any guide on making a bottling bucket.
I have a 5 gallon bucket and I want to add a spigot to it to bottle.
What do I need to buy from a place like Home Depot to put it together? I have little knowledge on "home depot" type...
My wife and I are enjoying brewing very much. We do extracts for now and it is working well.
The only complaint we have is after cooling the wort, we have a hard time separating the hops from the wort. Typically how we do it is use a funnel and some kind of a filter. We have tried coffee...
I just transferred my pumpkin beer from my primary to my secondary. I took a sample and tasted it. It tastes like beer, and it has a small amount of alcohol by taste.
I screwed up in the beginning and did not take a correct gravity reading. Not even in the ball park. So I have no idea what I...
Alright so I used 2 lbs brown sugar, and 5 gallons treetop apple juice (no preservatives).
I used some safale-05 I washed from an IPA. Made a starter, and took a sample and tasted the starter, tasted great!
I did this on 1-24.
Now I'm starting to get a little worried. The airlock is...
Yup your dead on Hex. I took the gravity of my starter it was about 1.046. I then took the gravity of pure apple juice, and it was 1.050 just like you said. I then tasted it and i thought it tasted fantastic! Almost like sparkling cider with a tinge of alcohol.
Mixed in 2 pounds brown sugar...
Thank you storunner.
My IPA went great, the apple juice smells stonger of the yeast/alcohol/apples today, even though there is not much of a cake on the bottom. I am going to move ahead tonight and put it all in the carboy. I will compare hydrometer readings on newly opened apple juice vs the...
I didnt check so much for gunk on the bottom of the jar when I started, so im not sure if there is more now.
I am using Treetop 100% apple juice (no preservatives).
I smelled it and it smells alcholish to me, but I'm worried this could be from what I added with the washed yeast. My wife...
I am going to be making a cider in a few days and am trying to make a starter.
I have some safale-05 that I tried to wash from an IPA. I dont think I washed it 100% correctly because I got many different layers...
Anyhow this is what I did:
Got an apple juice container, emptied out...
I tried this method with my last cake but I made a mistake. I didnt decant very much and have ended up with a 1 inch sediment layer the bottom with a 1/8 inch white layer of yeast. Its been chillin in my fridge for about a month.
I am going to try and make a cider from this, should I try and...

I have tons of table sugar.
I have safale-05 yeast from an IPA I did before.
First how much sugar...
