May the 4th be with you.

Awesome! You should make a sweet label. SWMBO had an idea for a white label with the storm trooper helmet. White on white. I was thinking Darth Vader stirring up some wort, or with a bunch of Oktoberfest mugs.

    Anyone successful with peanut butter?

I'm gonna bottle tonight. Nige used 1oz of PB extract for 3 gallons, so I'm going with 2oz for my 5 gallons, since I assume he had some peanut flavor before adding the extract, and I have none.

US version of German Munich Malt???

Thanks guys!! I'll use the Briess. I'd like to make it a little more red than amber/lt. brown in honor of the 4th, so it looks like I'll have to do something special. I had thought of the cherries, but not the beets. Hmmmm. I think you are right about needing very little beet juice...

US version of German Munich Malt???

I will be brewing a test batch that will soon become a 10 gallon 4th of July party American Red Ale. I'm using this recipe, but I was wondering if there is an American made malt that I can use instead of the Munich that will get me a very red color. Any suggestions? Much thanks.

Specialty IPA: Red IPA Dead Run Red

Hey Surferdrew! I'm thinking of using this recipe as a base for a 4th of July American red. It will be my first BIAB and first AG. Do you know of an American version of the Munich Malt that will be just as red? I hadn't thought about using honey; could you taste it in the final product? I'm...

    Chocolate Milk Stout Recipe

This is my recipe for a milk chocolate stout that I later added peanut butter, vanilla, and bourbon to the secondary. 1 lb lactose and 6oz cocoa at flameout, and the same amounts again when racked to secondary. I added the vanilla because some said it would increase the "milky" flavor/feel...

    Anyone successful with peanut butter?

Thanks Shaun. I'm also considering just adding some more PB2 to the bottling sugar. I'd have to do the math and compensate for the sugar that they add to PB2. I've been told that since my beer is already >5% ABV I shouldn't have to worry about contamination. This would allow me to bottle...

    Anyone successful with peanut butter?

Yeah, http://hopville.com/recipe/576080/home-brew/peanut-butter-cup-stout Makes sense. It's still a decent chocolate stout at this point and I still haven't bottled, so at least I know I at least have a drinkable beer. Hey Nige, where did you get your peanut extract and how much is half...

    Anyone successful with peanut butter?

Just did a taste test. No peanut flavor whatsoever. I wonder if I didn't let the racking process agitate the PB/cocoa mixture. Should I not have cooked the PB/vodka before racking? I guess I'll add some PB extract when bottling. I'm not sure if I'll do the PB/vodka next time I make this...

Headed to Colorado/Wyoming and looking for breweries?

Anyone here ever had the small batch version of their milk stout? I had it at the Vail Big Beer fest and it smelled and tasted EXACTLY like farts. The guy behind the booth just shrugged and smiled.

Am I the highest brewer in America?

Oh, and I forgot about one possibly altitude induced weirdness. I've aerated the wort on all my batches, but after the first two missed FG by a few digits, I aerated much more vigorously on the 3rd and it reached FG very quickly. Good thing, too, because that one started at 1078. All three...

Am I the highest brewer in America?

This is the plan. Once I'm dialed in to my AG BIAB process, I'll start the testing. Yeah, the hops will be pretty subjective. I also plan on splitting 10g batches into two fermenters for yeast comparisons. My buddy that's near Taos, NM recently made an India Dark Lager, because that was the...

Am I the highest brewer in America?

Haha. The weekend of April 30th / May 1st. It's probably going to be a little brew party. We'll probably have 2 or 3 keggles boiling and maybe another stove top extract going. The more the merrier. :mug: No plans yet on the THCIPA, though. It takes a month or two for the THC to infuse...
