Irish Ale Yeast in a NEIPA

Been brewing NEIPA recipes with London Ale III for years. Just found that my new pack was punctured and leaked out. So, I’m going to use WYEAST 1084 Irish Ale instead (the only other yeast on hand). I know this strain can sometimes throw some diacetyl so I’ll adjust for that. The starter is...

SS Brewtech 2v System - rolling boil

Thanks, all, for the feedback. Hoping to have time to do an actual brew day this weekend and see how it goes with wort. I got an auto-reply from SSBT saying they're behind with support responses and they'll get back to me as soon as they can. So, I'll keep an eye out for that. It's in manual...

SS Brewtech 2v System - rolling boil

The plot thickens. The element power, apparently, goes to 105%(?) Seems very Spinal Tap. I thought that did the trick as it got 8 gallons up to 211.0 but then immediately retreated to 210.6 and a soft boil and stayed there for 15 minutes. I’ll await SS Brewtech’s response and I’ll try a full...

SS Brewtech 2v System - rolling boil

It's a 5500 watt halo element on a 240v plug running on a 30A dedicated breaker. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll be able to produce perfectly fine beer with a gentle boil, but I'd be surprised and a little disappointed in general that a pretty expensive 20 gallon system from a reputable...

2V SS Brewtech Brewing System Review Page

Ugh, just noticing this thread after starting a new one about boil temperatures, so pardon the double post. Anyone have experience with weak boils here? I just got a 20 gallon 2v system and could only hit 210.5-210.6 during an 8 gal water only test. Tried each element. Running off 30A...

SS Brewtech 2v System - rolling boil

Just a quick question for anyone who uses the SS Brewtech controllers/elements. I just received a 20 gallon, 2v system. I'm replacing a 15 gallon Brew-Boss single vessel electric system. It's running on a dedicated 30A GFCI breaker. During my initial water-only tests, I'm only able to get 8...

    Taking the nitrogen plunge. Advice?

It is a traditional stout faucet. My keg is also setup by default with a top dispensing float tube. I don’t see any reason that would cause a problem. The carbonation tastes right. I wouldn’t want it any higher. So if I’m under 1.2 because I didn’t carb long enough, I think it’s right. I’ll...

    Taking the nitrogen plunge. Advice?

Here we are, weeks later. I brewed a dry Irish stout, carbed on just CO2 to about 1.2 for a week. I hooked it up to a 75/25 beer gas tank at 30psi about 36 hours ago. Do I need to let it sit on 75/25 for a certain amount of time before I should see cascade? No cascade right now with minimal...

    Taking the nitrogen plunge. Advice?

Awesome. Thanks for all the advice. Yeah, my local shop does swaps of 75/25 beer gas blend tanks - so, it's super convenient. I actually didn't realize that people did that - light CO2 carb alone before the blend. So, excellent to know. Side note, but still on topic - I've been reading...

    Taking the nitrogen plunge. Advice?

Been homebrewing and kegging for close to 10 years and being a big fan of nitro stouts, I've always wanted to get set-up to serve over nitro at home. I think I'm FINALLY pulling the trigger. I've done general research and I get the basics - I'm buying a nitro tank and regulator, stout faucet...

Relatively high gravity after a year on Roeselare

Thanks, all. I appreciate all the responses. Funny, I actually did this the day before you posted. I pulled about 20 ounce sample and chilled it, and my wife and I sat with it for a while. While brett character is still more pronounced than I would like, it's much less aggressive when cold...

Relatively high gravity after a year on Roeselare

Makes sense. I have a couple gallons of distilled laying around anyway. I could boil and chill easily. Would there be a problem disturbing the pellicle you think? Might be able to pierce it with a wine thief and pour water through it slowly to keep disturbance to a minimum.

Relatively high gravity after a year on Roeselare

For the record, OG was 1.056. Double checked the recipe. Was actually about 5 IBUs. I bittered with 0.5 oz of Sterling per 8 gallons and they were about a year old so < 5 IBU I'm sure. Ugh, I'm a dumb dumb. Yeah, evaporation would leave sugar behind wouldn't it? I wasn't too concerned about...

Relatively high gravity after a year on Roeselare

I started a 30 gallon solara of a flanders red a year ago with a Roeselare yeast cake from an 8 gallon "starter" batch. The 30 gallons fermented down and stabilized at 1.016 in 3 weeks. I mashed high to leave residual sugars so this was pretty much as expected. I racked off the cake into an oak...

    Oak barrel rinse following sulphur

I hear that. I've got 32 gallons in a food grade BRUTE barrel. Two double brew days. Four AG 8-gallon batches total. Brutal. Good luck!
