    New Electric Keggle, barrel style

The cost to make this was rather negligible. I was lucky and I got my hands on a pallet of 6 new kegs for free. I also had a bunch of extra blicheman boilmaker parts laying around from a larger system, so all components are blicheman. But here is a breakdown of what I would expect it to cost...

    New Electric Keggle, barrel style

Benbradford, I love what you have done! I plan to stain a similar color, and then seal it. I used cedar lath strips, they are 1/4" x 1.5". How I fit the slats was simply cutting them to the height of the keg. I wrapped the keg with insulation, and added an extra layer in the middle to add more...

    New Electric Keggle, barrel style

I recently built myself an electric control box powered by a BCS-460 to replace my gas fired system. I got my hands on some brand new kegs and decided to use those as my kettles. Punched the holes for the temp probe, thermometer, ball valve and element. Then I wrapped the kettle with some...

    Temp probe fluctuation

The problem seems to be worse when the boil is more vigorous. Really, this is not an issue of any kind because the boil is intense, and controllable. The temp reading of it is not much of a concern. However, with that being said I did brew a batch of an imperial amber rye ale today. 10...

    Temp probe fluctuation

I finally got around to changing over my gas system to electric the other day. After some struggles with faulty SSR's in my panel, I finally have everything up and running. All seems to be working greatly, with one exception. At or near a rolling boil my temperature probes jump around...

BearKaat Brewery Brand Image input needed!

Bearcat was a term used for a "hot firey lady" during prohibition. This is not entirely what we are trying to convey with the image however. What we are trying to convey is simply this: beer, simplicity, and a historic feel. As far as why we chose a female, again the reason is simple, sex...

BearKaat Brewery Brand Image input needed!

I would like to start by thanking everyone in advance for their input. Currently, we are in the works of creating a brand image and label for our new and upcoming brewery. We are really trying to go for an older style look that is enticing to both male and female audiances with out 'over the...

Need feedback: Cinnamon Vanilla Oatmeal Stout

one whole bean soaked in bourbon will be plenty, however 2 will give you a strong flavor if thats what you're going for. Also, if you only plan to leave it in the bourbon a few days you will want to add an extra bean because it takes a decent amount of time for full extraction.

    What is this? Infection?

I have had krausens look like that. I would say that it is more than likely just fine. The only way I would be concerned is if the krausen had fallen completely and then that showed up. However, if that was there the entire time, its just a nice healthy krausen. I had something just like...

Need feedback: Cinnamon Vanilla Oatmeal Stout

I agree with Deacon, a little vanilla extract goes a long ways. Also, I would consider adding everything to secondary. Vanilla oils can have a negative effect on fermentation from my experience. If you do not plan to use a secondary, I would wait until the fermentation is almost complete. I...

    IPA Critique

Agree with GlenF that this beer will be very sweet. And you want at most 5lbs of honey malt. Honey malt comes through very strong even in small amounts. I would recommend using less than a .5lbs (maybe .25lbs) of honey malt if you intend on using the c-40. If you drop the c-40 all together...

    Help with snoqualmie falls avalanche

From my calculations, at a 75% efficiency, you would have a starting gravity of 1.075 (1.070 with 70%). The description of the beer states it has an OG of 1.068. How much higher are you looking to go with the gravity? If you're looking to maintain the mouthfeel and body of the beer while...

    uh-oh?

I had a brown ale turn out like this once. It was perfectly fine one day, and the next it looked like that. There were some white chunks, not quite as well defined as what yours looks like though. I hate scrapping any beer I have brewed, so I racked from under it, and left a good amount in the...

Little or no krausen, but very active fermentation

    And sample glass to taste.
