    Blowoff Tube

I guess i could use this as a great excuse to my wife to buy a 14 gallon conical. I have to have it ior i will be force to put silicon in my beer! Does the fermcap affect head retention? Sounds like it would?

Ive never used fermcap before. What does it do exactly?

    Blowoff Tube

So i made an 11 gallon batch of Copper Ale clone this weekend and filled 2 5.5 gallon fermentors. I hated to waste any precious wort so i didnt leave much headspace in one of the fermentors. I pitched a healthy yeast starter of a german ale strain that kicked off very quickly. The krausen formed...

    Heating element hole size

I just wanted to clarify that the hole size for an electric heating element is 1 1/4 inches. The correct hole punch size for this element is the greenlee 1 1/4 inch radio chasis hole punch. The 1 1/4 inch conduit punch is too big. Ask me how I know.

    Heating Element Won't Heat

The DC polarity was reversed. It took 5 seconds to fix. Thanks everyone for your input. It is up and running and I couldnt be more excited about my upcoming brew using this system.

    Heating Element Won't Heat

It is running through a 40 amp SSR which shows about 9 volts DC current going to the input and it shows 120 coming out but the light built into the SSR is not lighting up and the SSR isnt getting warm. But the fact remains that the element is reading 220. I don't see how it can show 220 volts...

    Heating Element Won't Heat

Upon testing my new control panel I found my heating element won't heat up. I have a 5500 watt 240 volt element that is receiving 220 volts at the terminals of the element but its not heating up. This is a new element never been used before. I tested the ohms reading and it read 11 ohms. I...

Let's Hear It From The Louisiana Brewers

I am a member of the Fort Miro Brewmasters. I think we have around 15 active members now. The club was started about a year ago. We have been slow getting started but things are starting to move now. We meet once a month at various pubs in Monroe (usually the Pickle Barrel) to discuss beer...

.05 Blood Alcohol Limit for Driving?

So why dont you write your legislator and ask them to change the limit to 0.01? It sounds like you would sleep better at night. Where is the study that shows that drivers with a BAC of 0.08 are suddenly no longer able to drive a vehicle? What was discovered to warrant a change to 0.05? As...

.05 Blood Alcohol Limit for Driving?

Its not about jail time. Its about the fact that the law is not written to judge impairment. It Is written for entrapment. Its a revenue generator. It is written to make criminals out of otherwise lawful citizens. It is a flawed law. One person may be impaired with a BAC of .08 while another is...

    Top Cropping Yeast

I am currently fermenting a hefe-weizen using Wyeast 3068 Weihenstephen Weizen yeast. Wyeast recommends having 33% headspace. I dont have near this much headspace. Am i going to loose much of my yeast in blowoff and how's this gonna effect my fermentation?

    Aeration: Which way is it?

It always annoys me when i see posts that say you have to do this or that in order to make good beer. As in the case for using an oxygen tank to aerate the wort, i dont and i'm quite certain that good beer has been made throughout history without the use of an O2 tank and oxygen stone. The truth...

    Oxi Clean

This is the stuff I've been using for over a year. Works great and i've had no taste issues. I do a thorough rinse after soaking however. You will find that your tubing will become cloudy if soaked overnight so u may not wanna soak the tubing longer than a couple hours. I also read where certain...
