    Basement Brewery Project

Hopefully someone out there hears this: My understanding is that the interior of this box has flat surfaces, except for the hole in the top leading to the exhaust duct. Is there any condensation buildup in the interior of the box - condensation that doesn't get sucked into the ventilation...

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

So to flesh this out some more, and assuming 15g tallboy kettle, using just the ic3500: You say you can't get a good boil going with 10g and w/o lid, but with lid it does well. Of course, it's not as difficult to maintain a boil as it is to get it going. So if we attempt to bring, say, 13g of...

    Stainless Steel Growler

    Stainless Steel Growler

I received a 64oz Hydroflask as a gift for Christmas and was super excited to try it. I put it in the freezer after Christmas to get it cold and facilitate headless pouring from the keg into the growler when it came time to fill it. Fast forward two months to today (Feb 3) when I filled it...

    Anyone join the AHA?

Supporting the hobby is the main reason I am a member. The AHA probably benefits all homebrewers more than you think, through its advocacy of the craft. To add to the hombrewing rally comment: I attended one at F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica, NY (they do the Saranac and Utica Club lines, plus a...

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

Thanks for the replies. I actually decided to get a Raspberry Pi board today, and ordered that. I realize, however, that this is not a turnkey solution, it's really just a replacement for the laptop that I was going to use. But, what I really need assistance on now is the other components...

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

So I've reviewed the thread in full and have some questions (see below). I am pretty sure I understand what is going on, but I wanted to recap for my own sake (to be sure I understand) and also to hopefully help anyone else out there who is thinking of doing this but needs some help. So we're...

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

Yeah, I'm in a bit of a holding pattern now b/c of things going on. I did order the sample temp sensor and relays, but I've been reading over this thread a lot trying to make sense of it all, and read up on the parts, so that I have half a clue about what's going on. I'll post with any progress...

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

I'm wondering if anyone here would be willing to work closely with me (through PM, email, possibly even phone if necessary) to get one of these remote monitor/temp control setups built. My fermentation occurs at a remote location and it's a PITA to drive to check on it. You can imagine how...

    Beer in San Diego

I was just in San Diego for four days (Sat through Tuesday), from New York. I was fortunate in that I had pretty much all four days to drink beer wherever I wanted. Here is what I did in terms of breweries: Sunday: Stone (Escondido) - Awesome place, bunch of menu items, finally tried Pliny...

    Fruit in beer question

I haven't brewed with dried cherries, but a lot of what I read and listened to (podcasts) say to add fruits like that after primary fermentation winds down, such as by racking beer onto the puree in a secondary vessel

    Starsan question

Agreed, I also use distilled and check the Ph every month or two. Lasts indefinitely if you filter dirt/debris out of it when necessary

Question for plumbers or the experts in fittings

Can you let me know what you did? I think I need to do the same thing. I need to adapt the 3/8" OD soft copper tubing (on both in and out side of the CFC) to a 1/2" NPT male quick disconnect for coupling to my female quick disconnect leading to my 1/2" ID silicone tubing.

    Brooklyn Winter

Any luck? I might try to formulate something too, or work from someone's attempt.

    15G Aluminum Brew Pot

I'm sorry I can't post a picture of mine, but I installed a ball valve in that same type of aluminum pot. I used a cheap step drill bit that i bought from Harbor Freight. I went slow and used dish soap for lubricant. Filed the inside and outside edges of the hole and had no problems.
