You can also re-use yeast from a previous batch, look up "Yeast Washing". Also, you can up your yeast count by making a simple yeast starter. For the MB kits though, I've found the 2g to be fine, epecially since so many of them are of a lower gravity.

So just what are these "few" additions? I can see adding some DME/LME. I can see maybe dry hopping. What else?

Dry hopped - what a mess!

So I decided to dry hop with pellets (after fermenting for 2 weeks), and after 4 days, still a massive mess floating on top. I read the forum posts, and found tips like rocking, tapping, etc, and they will fall. Well they did, somewhat, but here I am at day 11, and have given up, still a solid...

Is it ok to collect yeast from dry yeast packets?

How much do you think a stir plate increases production vs a good shake at start?

Now that's a good idea, will try that, certainly easier than washing!! Thank you.

I see this argument all the time. What are you guys paying for dry yeast? I pay about $4 for dry and $6 for liquid. I dont understand why $2 more for liquid all of the sudden makes it worthwhile. I harvest all.

IMO, the best feature of the hydrometer is the final reading, letting you know it's done. Even on this batch you'll see how useful it is.

You should wait until you have two readings of the same value. If wait two days - if I take a reading on Weds I try again on Fri. If same, I bottle. If not, wait another couple days. Wait until it stays the same. Then it's done.

Call me lazy, labels are a pain

Same here. I just put a batch number on them, and can look up if need be. A few hundred 3/4 inch stickers for $1 and a Sharpie is fast and cheap.

Add at same time as extract. 4oz of honey is prob not going to make a lot of difference, but there will be some. You could add a few days into fermentation for more honey taste but again 4oz isn't much.
