I don't know if it is an issue in this case; but the fermenter should be 20% larger than the batch of beer.

I have a 7.9 gallon fermenting bucket that came with my beginner’s kit. The lid fits ok but it does not seal, just lies on top of the bucket. (I’m not very strong – but I think a lot of people would have trouble.) I am not willing to use a mallet and pry bar. What do I need to do to use this...

First, let me say that I am newer than you. But, the man that runs the local brew shop told me it is dangerous to bottle beer in wine bottles because they are not strong enough. Maybe you should check if someone before you bottle.
