    Chopping for winter?

On a related question... I'm moving around the end of Oct & want to take my crowns with me. Can I cut them at ground level and transplant in a day or so without killing them? I've got two cascade and two Columbus. Both are first year plants that did extremely well (close to 1.5lbs total). I...

My Fortune for One 5/8" Stainless Steel Fender Washer!

My brother used a drill press to widen a .5 in to 5/8. Kinda a pita but if you've got the tools it could save you some trouble. Also the large rubber rings on plastic bottle bucket spigots work great to tighten up the inner seal on a cooler style tun.

    Dark hairs on hop cones?

Here's a pic of the 'hairs' that I cleaned off my counter-space after unloading them. They're in a small bowl and hopefully visible in the pic (it was taken w/ a cell phone). Okay so someone explain how to upload pics into posts. The pic is in my gallery titled first year hops. After...

    Dark hairs on hop cones?

I've harvested from my four surviving cascade and columbus hop plants several times now. Each time I've noticed dark hairs (similar to eyelashes) that grow and fall off of the cones. Being a first time grower I was worried about them being seeds, but I've now seen pics of seeds and that ain't...

    What could go wrong????

Yikes. I end up lifting practically everything at least once, but would that table set up even hold said parts after water is added? PS: Go Blue Rhino LP. Dirt cheap exchanges.

First time byung equipment/brewing; want to go all the way

A good kettle or keggle (beer keg converted) to mash, boil, or just to heat/hold hot water for mashing and sparging is a great investment. I got mine from adventures in homebrewing. Expect to spend more than $200 for this item alone. Keggles are 15+ gallons, so they'll handle most average to...

OG woes with second all grain--should I dump it?

Im w/ David on this one. My first AG's grav was way off (it was low due to me not know wtf I was doing), but after 2 days in primary I boiled a little dme, cooled it and added it to the primary and ended up w/ some more or less great beer. I wouldn't scrap it unless you truly don't have the...

Saturdays aren't supposed to be like this

Sunday afternoon update: Oil changed, battery replaced, SWMBO's tank filled, check still un-cashed (@#$%^& banks), serious dent put in on hand home-brew, so I know what I'll be doing next weekend :D. Thanks for the words of commiseration all!

Saturdays aren't supposed to be like this

so I'm not quite drunken yet but want to vent/ramble... I get up today to transplant rhizomes from pot to garden, and get in the car to go get a few things and realize I need to change the oil in my car. I get in the car to go get 5 quarts and a filter and guess what? Car wont start. After...

what to plant? (Piedmont region, Carolinas)

I put in two each of a NA Hallertau and Fuggles in Lexington, SC last year and got 'some' actual hop cones from the Fuggles, and quite a few from the Hallertau in the first growth season. I'm hoping to get a bit more out of each this year as well as expand the yard w/ Cascade, Horizon, and...
