I've been brewing on and off for a couple of years now and just tried to make my first cider. My folk's came down last weekend from WNY and I had them pickup 5 gallons of unpasteruized, unproccesed cider from a local Cider Mill.
I heated the cider and some brown sugar in a brew pot at 150F...
I use the dishwasher and put sanatizer in instead of soap. After they're dry, I then use the sanatize option on the dishwasher again.
Probably overkill but so far it seems to work.
Fermentation takes up to 24 hours to start. Also depending on the yeast used (because i'm going to assume that the yeast is different for both beers), it may take longer to start.
I just use the typical glass carboys right now. The better bottle looks interesting, and I'm contemplating doing either a wine, or meade in Jan/Feb, and maybe I'll buy one of them when I go to make them.

I'm somewhat new as well, but I have brewed two batches already. One is done, bottled and i've been drinking it, the other is a X-mas brew that's currently in a secondary.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm excited about the first batch. Once I learn more, I'll be experimenting, but I'll probably stick to the kits for at least one more batch.
