Getting in to it, but a few questions

Yes, I agree with what you are saying. I didn't think I could change it either. Annoyingly the grain I'd like to use is that light. The recipes I'm doing are to see how I make beers that I like drinking in pubs. See the difference between theirs and mine.

Getting in to it, but a few questions

The reading went from 1.050 to 1.044 in those 5 days. We've got more yeast if its worth adding. Getting in to it, but a few questions

    1. The beer is at room temp, in a dark corner. I'd say 18-20C. 2. ~5% ABV 3. Pretty certain, every batch we upturn a bottle or 2 to see if anything comes out. I was hoping to get some tips on improving the colour of the current beer. We used a very light 4.5EBC, which we've used before but...

Getting in to it, but a few questions

My dad and I are on our 9th brew, some have been better than others. The most recent has been in the bottles for 6 weeks and are still flat and cloudy, is there something we can do? or test? A few more Q's for you helpful chaps!: I've made a beer with dextrose sugar, we also done a grain...

    Filtering beer into bottles

Oxidation by it falling into a filter you mean? Is there any other ways to do it?

    Filtering beer into bottles

So we're about to start our 5th homebrew now, this time we've made sure we will fit the little bottler tap, so we no longer need to syphon it out. Previously we would use a syphon hose (attached to the little bottler wand), with a muslin cloth over the end in the beer (sterilised of course)...

    OG readings and ABV

Top stuff. Lesson learnt! I'll stir the next batch. A good excuse to get an other up and running ASAP! Thanks again all.

    OG readings and ABV

You know, I did contemplate the whole US/UK gallons. I assumed it was UK gallons, as that equals 23 litres, which is standard here for the kit brew. I need to learn not to assume! Does the final reading need to be adjusted as well? Thanks for the clarity chaps.

    OG readings and ABV

C-66, very kind of you. Batch 1: We followed this to a T: www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/all-amarillo-ipa-28517/, so 7lbs in 23litres total brew (measured in the FV). Batch 2: 27.3 litres total. Using 8.44lbs of DME. We'll stir the next batch.

    OG readings and ABV

Ah, I see. Well we didn't mix it up once we topped it up. But imagined putting in water from a tap would do that. The second batch we up-scaled to 6 gallons, to get the most out of the FV. But we also increased the malt measure.

    OG readings and ABV

I'm onto my second batch of this brew (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/all-amarillo-ipa-28517/) and I'm struggling with my OG readings. Batch one: 1.037@23degrees when put into the FV, came out at 1.010@23degrees. Turns out at 3.5%, but it does seem to have a bit of a kick. Batch two...

    Best IPA and tecnique

Quick Q. It's been in the FV for 4 weeks now, and currently looks like this. It still seems far too cloudy to bottle, yet the OG readings are not changing. Do I just bottle it and have a cloudy beer, or is there something I need to do, to clear it?

    Best IPA and tecnique

So we done it, too 3 hours in all, after us debating methods etc. But it smelt good and looks great too. It was put in the FV at 8:30pm last night with a OG of 1.037 @ 17degrees. We stirred it up when we put the water in, then chucked the yeast in and sealed it up. But, upon review this...

    Best IPA and tecnique

Perfect thanks. Nice and clear. I'll get all this ordered up. Quick Q: The malts on the site I'm using say 4-6 EBC, where as the recipe says 40. Problem? ETA: Found a 40L :)

    Best IPA and tecnique

Yes, sorry oz's not lb's! I'll obviously read up, but my instructions are the bare steps? Same for the 4 ingredients I've listed? This is for my fathers day gift, so need to order now, I can look into methods over the next few days.
