the 9oz Black Patent actually works in this ...
I originally was doing 5oz Black Patent with 4oz Black Barley
but then decided there was no difference and made a merger haha...
This was one of the best porters I have ever put my lips on !
I upped the coffee content a little in mine~ and enjoyed it ten fold !
It was very strong at 1st with the coffee flavor... but with any ale... it got better by the day !
I just had one the other night!
the coffee flavor is now...
Roger, it is Delicious !
& Richlong , it really depends on how much carbonation you desire in your brew.
personally for a robust porter like this i shoot for low\medium carbonation~
I added 5/8 cups honey into a half cup of boiling water and desolved it by stirring rapidly~ I then dumped...
I am in for some brew comp. ~
Ill def. attempt a batch and send out 2 bottles ~
NOW THAT I AM THINKING ABOUT IT!!
I would probably give up one of these usless fingers or toes for a white rajah and a lamb burger from the brew kettle ... RIGHT NOW~
goodness the things i would do for that...
well, this is why I was excited to get this up on the forums ~
I need advice like this!!!
I will not boil and just heat the jugs of honey much like I heat my malt cans ~
I will also discard the Irish Moss ~
Think I will stick with the gypsum ~ its a small amount anyway... and I need to get...
I typically Irish moss (for clarity) on everything ~
The Gypsum was just something incorporated via reading PAPAZIAN~
in his mead section... he used it in every batch!
figured it had something to do with the honey not having the right "stuff" to do what it needs to do~
as for the boil ~ it...
well if I would have went back and looked ...
You did post your FG ~
would mine be a little high (like it is) because I took reading after adding 4 1/2oz corn sugar :cross:
ehh regardless, thanks for all your help~ I will let you know how it is after conditioning is over !
Yesterday:
Day 20
I was thrilled to finally get this into the bottle~
The aroma was tantalizing and quite chocolatey.
I ended up with a little over 2 cases of bottled beer ~
*(side story ~ was using my grandfathers circa 1940's bottle capper and pinched my ring finger quite severely)...
Just a small update ~
:)
this thing is ROARING in the primary!!!!
I have never seen any bubble activity from start till now (strange)
However, the yeast is just swirling around in there like maniacs !!!
Also has a heady amount of krauzen, which is seemingly falling back now!
I am almost...
I am drooling in suspense!
Like many others ~ The White Rajah has been a hands down favorite since it touched my picky little lips!
I love the guessing game (as clones should be)
and I will also attempt to brew up the closest clone to the best beer ever!
(once all these great guesses...
