    Addressing a few myths...

Indeed, from the point at which I now stand...but when I started, I was thoroughly intimidated by the multitude of methods and opinions out there, some strong, some not--but it put me off from getting into brewing for a while. I guess 12,000 years brings along many, many points of view.

    Addressing a few myths...

Blueberrries in particular will float and restart fermentation enough to build up CO2 in the carboy and block the narrow opening. While it has never happened to me, carboys will explode--that is, the carboy will crack and break, not just pop off the airlock--so I'm told. Oh, and I guess "MUST"...

    Addressing a few myths...

HomeBrewTalk sent me an email saying I haven't done much lately (not that I ever did), so here goes: I'm an extract-with-grains brewer. I've been doing it heavily for just over 1.5 years. I have no competitive aspirations at all. I have two children, so I have no desire to become an...

    Boil; chamomile; irish moss; color

Yep. I love beercalculus! "Don't worry about IBU differences after the late-addition of extract. It will be negligible." That's exactly what I wanted to hear: Do the late extract addition, and make no other adjustments to the recipe or procedure, and the beer will taste like it does now...

    Boil; chamomile; irish moss; color

Thank you RCCOLA and Bartyen82. I just had the first taste of this last night--without doing the late extract addition--and I am VERY happy with it, so I'm nervous about monkeying with the flavor, but I would like the color to be lighter. And Bartyen82 confirms my fear: I'll have to adjust...

    Boil; chamomile; irish moss; color

I have a few questions here...might be a breach of etiquette, but it beats clogging up the forum with more than one thread. 1) I boil 2 gallons of water to dechlorinate. After 5 minutes, I remove from heat and stir in the extracts until the klumps are gone/it is smooth and saturated. When...

Record for the highest extract OG ever?

I appreciate that. Know what? I was very angry and flustered when I took the hydrometer reading (I took it inside the carboy because I forgot to sterilize the test tube, and any means of filling it, so I was pissed at myself already), and I think I just plain misread the hydrometer in my...

Record for the highest extract OG ever?

Ugh. I was afraid someone would ask that...it is with a great deal of intrepidation that I submit this: 6.6 lbs Briess CBW Pure Malt Extract, Bavarian Wheat, Liquid Malt Extract, Non-Diastatic, Unhopped 1 lb Brewer's Best Light Candi Sugar (during boil for 20 minutes) 0.5 lb Instant...

Record for the highest extract OG ever?

I'm starting to think that I mis-read my hydrometer, although I don't see how, despite the fact that it's the third I've ever done...

Record for the highest extract OG ever?

So, Neonsilver, what kind of beer, and what was the OG, please?

Record for the highest extract OG ever?

Obvioulsy, I'm posting this because I think I've already won...My answer to come after a few responses confirm my suspicions. While I know better than to say, "I've ruined it!" I will say that I'm going to have to do a little more than primary ferment for a week and bottle for 2 weeks...
