I hate to necro an old thread, but thanks for posting... it was exactly what I was looking for. Buying the ingredients now.

    A fly in my airlock?!

Yeah. I have another airlock around here. Could just prep that one and do a quick swap out. Thanka for all the replies!

    A fly in my airlock?!

Today I found a (dead) bug/fly in the water in my airlock! This beer has been in primary for 8 days now, and I've been checking the airlock at minimum once per day, so I know he's not been in there for very long. WTF?? There is a cap on the airlock with pinholes that I thought was supposed...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer McAustin's Mocha Stout (w/cold-brewed coffee)

Okay, so I've got a minor problem here. I walked out of the brew shop with 5lbs of Light DME, not 6lbs of Dark DME. Given that the steeping grains are accurate, how would the change to 5lbs Light DME affect the beer? Also, I've got a malt starter packet and some table sugar (ick!) that...

Kieran the Irish Immigrant American Amber Ale

Yeah, that's probably it. I took the sample from my filtering/bottling bucket before I transferred it to my Carboy (where I shook the hell out of it to oxygenate and mix). Fermentation seems slower than I would have expected, but my laundry room is a little chillier than the rest of the house...

Kieran the Irish Immigrant American Amber Ale

So I went to make my second batch of this today. Everything was fine until I tested my OG: 1.082. I realized I used 4lbs of Pale LME by accident instead of 3.3. It shouldn't affect my hop efficiency much, as I did a late malt addition of about 50%. Would someone more experienced than me give...

Kieran the Irish Immigrant American Amber Ale

I'm not at all surprised. When I brewed it, this beer appealed to many people.

Kieran the Irish Immigrant American Amber Ale

Since I never followed up... I hit both the OG and FG right on the money. This is a good beer. It's got a very strong taste and meets the description/expectations of the beer fantastically. As such, I would not describe it as a "thirst-quenching" type of brew. My big issue was that I...

How much burned extract is too much?

Following up here, putting some oxyclean and water in the pot for a day will make it sparkle again. There is nothing oxyclean cannot do. It should run for president.

British Brown Ale "Old Bog Road" Brown Ale (Pm or Extract w/grain)

This came out quite well for me. Not too malty..a very easy drinker. Had too many new year's eve, in fact.

How much burned extract is too much?

As a side question (AKA threadjack), this happened to me yesterday as well on a different beer. How do you get those scorch marks off the inside bottom of the kettle?

I've got this one bubbling away. And I mean BUBBLING_AWAY. This Nottingham dry yeast was hungry!

    Selecting a Stout for pops

If you father could stand a good chocolate/coffee stout, I would recommend this one, created by user McAustin. I brewed it and am very happy with it.

British Brown Ale "Old Bog Road" Brown Ale (Pm or Extract w/grain)

I've got the extract version bubbling away. I'm looking forward to it.
