All Grain from Amazon.com... seems really nice... oddly CHEAP

Thanks, I'll do that. I was planning to secondary for at least 3 months, so I'll just have to be patient. My beer has been getting warm during fermentation; part of the problem with living in Florida. I think my next project is to get a cheap fridge or chest freezer and convert it into a...

All Grain from Amazon.com... seems really nice... oddly CHEAP

An update on my Amazon RIS kit. I was planning to transfer to secondary today but when I opened the bucket I noticed a strong apple/cidery smell, and sure enough it tasted that way as well. The SG was 1.024 with a target FG of 1.022. I did not notice any yeast on the surface but there was...

All Grain from Amazon.com... seems really nice... oddly CHEAP

I ordered the Russian Imperial Stout kit and it arrived today. Looks to be okay. Has two very large (haven't weighed them) bags of DME, fair amount (likely 2-3 lbs) of already crushed steeping grains, three hop additions (probably a total of 4 oz.) and Safale -04 dry yeast. Where to buy coolers?

I just bought 2, 10 gallon Coleman Drink Coolers for $20 a piece at the Coleman outlet near me. If you live near one they may have the same deal. They're perfect and have gallon markings on the inside as well. I'll post pics eventually as I'm using them to build my HERMS.

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

Thanks. I misread his post. I shouldn't lose any wort though as the sparge water will get pumped through the coil during the sparge to clear out any wort.

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

Another question for any experts out there. I'm getting ready to purchase my HERMS coil and want to get 50' 1/2" tubing (I think). The "refrigeration" grade tubing is WAY cheaper than type K or L but does not seem to be NSF rated for liquids (from what i can find). Is there any real...

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

I saw the BLING BLING thread as well. Awesome stuff but I'm not there yet. Thanks for the feedback. Few more things...When you go to mashout do you shut off the pump and stop the recirc to get your HLT temp up faster than start the recirc again? Also, when you start your sparge and drain...

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

Pol, My first post in this forum, but I've been lurking for a while getting ideas on a HERMS system. I really like the simplicity of your setup but had a few questions. Also wanted to say thanks to you and all the others for posting great stuff (especially all the pics). 1. Could you...
