After a 9 Month Lay Off From Brewing...

WOWZERS!!! For a guy that went many years of brewing 10 gallon batches every other weekend, I just took a nine month lay off from brewing. Sure as hell I have my reasons why. More like a bunch of significant contributors to make nine months of no brewing. Well, brewed an NEIPA today. I figured...

Counter Flow Chillers/Plate Chillers Use Less Water?

I have to ask as I am running into an issue as far as my well going dry on brew days here at my new house. Only time I run the water during my brew day is when I run the immersion chiller. So my question is this. For all of you that have had an immersion chiller and now run some sort of CFC or...

    Starter activity of harvested yeast

WOW!!! My yeast took off like a rocket. I checked on my carboys this morning at 0500 Hrs, and both of them already had wort being blown off into the blow off container. Super excited that the harvested yeast is working out!:ban::ban::ban:

    Starter activity of harvested yeast

What a timely thread for me. I also harvested some yeast, although mine was the Giga Yeast Vermont IPA GY054. I made my starter on Thursday evening, and Friday morning I had no signs of activity. Came home from work on Friday, and all I had was a very thin layer of krausen ( I did a 2 liter...

Would You Use This Old Yeast?

What do you think, starter or no starter? I'm thinking a small one to get the yeast going. Then again, how much of the yeast should I scoop into my flasks for the starter. I would be doing a 2.50 liter starter with 250 grams of XLDME. If I recall correctly, isn't it 1 cup of the yeast slurry?

Would You Use This Old Yeast?

On 7/1012016 I kegged a batch of my Sessionable Pale Ale, and I filled up 2, 24 ounce glass mugs with the yeast/slurry at the bottom of each carboy. Both of the glass mugs were properly sanitized in Start Sans. They were placed in my lagering fridge at 34 degrees, both covered with tin foil, and...
