Instead of mounting mine on my stand, I put it in a plastic toolbox, following the Brew Your Own instructions. Can always mount it later. I use 1/2 inch SS fittings. That or brass, not plastic. After adding teflon tape carefully tighten so you wont break the 809's plastic connections.

Yes, I'd recirculate the hot wort through the chiller with a pump before running the cold water through it. I've got a March pump I'll eventually be using for the chilling process. I didn't use it Sunday because I was having some priming problems when I was testing it Saturday.

I agree. And with that in mind, I'm thinking I'll make a son of fermentation chiller or a two-carboy version instead of going the conical route. One of the enjoyable things about homebrewing I remember is making a lot of the equipment I used.

Thanks for the welcome. What are the devices to control fermentation temp? I've got a controller for my garage frig, but used that with the draft system, not with fermenting.
