So I ruined my first all grain batch!..

Hey all, So it's been 3 weeks since I first bottled the stuff and now it tastes... Ok. It doesn't taste like a beer I've tasted before but it does have a sweet, almost ice cream aroma to it and is well carbonated?! Not what I expected tbh but It is approx 6.5% by hydrometer so it does have a...

So I ruined my first all grain batch!..

Ok, I'll try and get this all in one shot... Yes I boiled in a polypropylene bucket which is used as a more efficient way for us in the UK to brew all grain.. I researched before hand and the plastic is good for temperatures of around 150c. It boiled at 100c for one hour with out deformation or...

So I ruined my first all grain batch!..

Hey HBT! So I finally took the plunge into AG after only a couple of successful Extract kits and already "it" seems to have hit the fan. Brew day went well with the the "DIY" equipment I was using.. Standard cooler style mash tun... Copper coil immersion chiller.. Only piece that was a one off...

    Growing Barley

Thanks guys, it's only an experiment at this stage so I bought a 500g bag from the LHBS, so I don't suppose it's feed barley. One thing I have noticed is that it's growing incredibly slow! I steeped and rested the grains for 3-4 days until I saw chits then planted. It does have a best before...

    Growing Barley

Hey, I recently bought a bag of whole barley and planted it in the hope that I can make some specialty malts, only thing is I don't know if it's spring or winter barley. Does anyone know if there are any visible characteristics between the 2 grains which will help me identify them Thanks in...

    Peroni Clone anyone?

Hi all, I recently found a Grolsch clone recipe which I am looking forward to brewing but what I really want is a decent Peroni clone. for any who haven't experienced, it's almost like Italy's answer to a German Pils, which in my opinion is far superior. This is my favourite beer and I want...

White wine must a browny color

Brilliant, thanks guys! I feel more confident about the batch now. And thanks WilliamSlayer, I've been brewing as an amateur for around a year now, starting out with different flavored juices from the store which turned out well, now I'm getting more serious and experimenting with different...

White wine must a browny color

Can anyone offer any advice here? Will the yeast use up the oxygen making it a normal color or will finings help the finished product? Any help is appreciated Thanks

White wine must a browny color

I hope so too! It seems ok, it's fermenting away like a trooper! It's just the colour, it looks more like scrumpy cider! The kit is from a company called make your own. It came in a heavy duty foil pouch rather than a tin, I don't think it's an expensive one. I hope someone can explain this...

White wine must a browny color

Hi, I got a white wine kit as a Christmas gift which I pitched on Saturday 12th. I'm a little concerned that the must is brown. Is this oxidation and will it clear as the yeast do their job? I notice that the top 1/5th of the fermenter is lighter in color than the rest. Thanks
