    Current Mead Making Techniques

Thinking about racking onto some berries. I just had a really super fast primary that went from 1.12 to 1.02. How long can I leave it on the berries?

Belgian Golden Yeast for a Dunkelweizen?

By not the same balance, are you saying more flavor? That's the one thing that I've always been impressed with this Belgian Golden Ale yeast - it strikes me like a weizen on steroids, and I sort of like that. I figure Dunkels are slightly bigger anyway - looks like the typical ABV is 5.3...

Belgian Golden Yeast for a Dunkelweizen?

Hey All, I have used White Labs Belgian Golden Ale Yeast (WLP570) a handful of times in the past for Belgian Pale Ales. The flavor and aroma profile was amazing. I like Hefeweizens, and Dunkelweizens, but have heard people complain about weak flavor and aroma profiles after the Hefeweizen...

Possible fermenter? Feasible? What do you think?

My batches are 40-45 gallons worth. The tank is about 5 feet tall. I'm going to poke around online today - maybe see about a hatch on the side? Would make it more feasible to clean. Nice system Mash Monster.

Possible fermenter? Feasible? What do you think?

I thought about cutting the top off and somehow making a hatch. I've seen something like that done on sanke kegs. Then maybe install a ball valve to the side? It would be a flat bottom fermenter then i guess. Or possibly a brite tank?

Possible fermenter? Feasible? What do you think?

My local scrap yard has this beast. It's double lined, heavy as hell - stainless steel. I called the manufacturer, and it is hollow on the inside, despite the multiple ports on the top. Any good suggestions for turning this thing into a fermenter? I'm not a welder, but can find someone. If...

Question on Mash Water Quantity (need advice on this one)

I appreciate the feedback. I am not using a Herms or Rims system. My system is basically a homebrew system on steroids (built it like that). My mash tun is fully insulated, and holds it's temps pretty well (was surprised how well during tests). I'll be recirculating manually, old school homebrew...

Question on Mash Water Quantity (need advice on this one)

Yooper, I'm coming from a home brewer's background, so I am recirculating I guess the way I used to - draw some off, pour it over the top. There's going to be a lot of mistakes I'm sure on Friday. What would constitute an efficient recirculating system? I could pump it back over the top, or...

Question on Mash Water Quantity (need advice on this one)

Okay Boys (and gals) - here's my issue. It's positive, but I want to get it right. I built a 1.5 barrel system that I basically assembled, and tested in parts, but am just approaching the firt batch. I haven't mashed in yet. I had a pretty cool false bottom made that resides about 2.5 inches...

    transitioning from cornies to sankes

Yeah, I've read people using nickles, dimes - now pennies. I spoke to a guy yesterday up in Canada who was telling me to drill a hole into my sankes and installing aerating stones. I'm not going to drill into these kegs. Really, I was hoping to find a tool specifically for these purposes, and...

    transitioning from cornies to sankes

beer coming out the other end. What would you suggest? A hose with a closed valve for each coupler? Like I said, this is my first attempt at sankes, so I apologize for the dumb follow up question. And yes, everything at the same pressure.

    transitioning from cornies to sankes

So I am working on an angle for carbonating 8 sixtel sanke kegs at once. I've been told that the way to do this is to use a brite tank - but I'm not buying that this is the only way. I am looking at an 8 way co2 distributor, and 8 couplers - and I have a huge chest freezer and a temp controller...
