The beginning of Mr. Wobbly Brewing Co.

You should consider adding some diagonal lateral trusses to your setup. Then it won't be so wobbly and is less likely to fold over flat on you. The lateral perpendicular ones you have are only helping vertical buckling, but would not prevent the structure from collapsing off of vertical. Take...

    best HERMs coil location?

I put mine in the bottom, gravity drain as you described, put a ball valve on the intake (top) only, and offset them by 90 degrees. Doing so allows easier access when installing (removing).

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

I do not have a wiring diagram, but there are plenty on this forum. Just search around until you find what you need. I do NOT top off, I get full boil volume including what is lost in my kettles.

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

I don't have extensive electrical knowledge, just lurked around the forum for a few months, grabbed some ideas, put them together, and this is what I came up with. I like how simple it is, yet fully featured all grain.

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

I get just over 5 gallons of finished wort. I have no trouble boiling my full kettles, even in the winter. Since I brew outside if I want to speed it up, I loosely wrap a couple towels around the kettles to insulate them. In the spring or summer those aren't needed.

    dual vessel system

If you put one kettle higher than the other you can remove a pump from the system. I have a 2 kettle electric system similar to this. There are pics at this link... https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/brewkart-ditches-countertop-brutus-205427/ The only time wort leaves the system is when it...

    Another HERMS design question

You can get by with one pump and do what you want. Just put a valve on one pump, and use gravity a little bit. I'm very pleased with my setup. And I doubt I'll ever go back to gas. Electric is a lot easier and a lot better temp control...

Cleanup really isn't difficult, just use a small shop vac. I have one that I only use on my brewery, so i know it is relatively clean.

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

I do it the way I currently am so that I more accurately control the volume in my BK but that is a very valid point. I do monitor the progress of the mash via gravity readings, so I know I'm not missing out on too much. Also, lately I've been trying a 2nd runnings and making a second beer...

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

Yes, I do clean in place. I put all additions in bags, mash grain in a bag, and also have strainers over the kettle drains to help out with large material. I can remove my pump from the system for deep cleaning. In general though I use PBW, boiling water, and sanitizer (at different points of...

    30-40 minutes.

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

Alot of questions in there. I think describing the process a bit might clear things up. I fill my BK up with about 6 gallons of water and heat it to my strike temp. I then put my grains in my grain bag and put them in the MT. I use a calculator to determine the proper grain/water ratio. I...

    dual vessel system

I've been brewing for a while with my 2 vessel system, no issues. I think most of us 2 vessel people have come to the same conclusion, why have 3 when 2 works so well? Also, if you use a bit of gravity you only need one pump. Search attobrew on this forum and you'll see my setup. So far I...

    Keezer dehumidifer question

Couldn't you just use a small male barbed adapter? They sell them in 1/8" size, which is pretty small. Then add onto that a couple o rings and a nut, or maybe just a nut and a bunch of silicone. That'd cost you about $5.

    HERMS HLT gas vs elec.

Electric is nice because it isn't very often that the power company runs out of electricity in the middle of my brewday. And yes lower cost and more efficient. I recently learned that the heat transfer between my element and my wort/water is so efficient that my nylon hop bags can come in...
