Looking for advice on converting from a 3 vessel HERMS to a 2 vessel setup.

Something like this? PREMIUM RECIRCULATING ELECTRIC (240V) BIAB PACKAGE (BLICHMANN BOTTOM DRAIN EDITION)

Looking for advice on converting from a 3 vessel HERMS to a 2 vessel setup.

I have an old brass Blichmann Autosparge and the pin keeps rusting out. I also regret putting a sight glass on my MT. My thinking was that I could get rid of both with a new larger MT. One aspect of brewing I enjoy is hitting good efficiency numbers, and I don't mind spending more time on...

Looking for advice on converting from a 3 vessel HERMS to a 2 vessel setup.

My current system has been running well for about 8 years or so. (3) 10 gallon stainless kettles (2) Chuggar pumps (1) 3,500 Watt Avantco induction cooker I start by heating my combined volume of mash water and sparge water in my brew kettle on the left, typically 9.5 gallons. I then pump my...

    Ginger Ale (kegged)

I made this three days ago and it came out amazing! I brought 5.5 gallons of RO water to 150F in my MT. I used a food processor on a cores grate for the following: 2.8lbs of ginger, not peeled 5 limes, not peeled 2.5 lemons, not peeled I added that to my MT and then added: 5 cups of...

    Glycol Temp Control Set Up

I have two and never had a leak except one time I forgot to tighten down the cap at the top after cleaning. Want to post a photo of your lid setup?

    Glycol Temp Control Set Up

Same with me, after many years of use no problems with the lid supporting the full weight of the coil.

    Glycol Temp Control Set Up

I used reflectix brand tape that was sold with the reflectix roll. Works ok but the tape comes undone after a year or so of getting wet while cleaning. Overall happy with the setup.

    High Gravity Lager?

I added 1.5 gallons of RO water to the fermenter for a total of 7 gallons. That should drop my OG down to 1.075 or so. If I hit my FG of 1.018 that will give me an apv of 7.5 which should be well with in the reach of the yeast. A bit of a compromise between options 1 & 3. I will let you know...

    High Gravity Lager?

Was tying to make a basic lager with this recipe: https://www.morebeer.com/products/amber-lager-grain-beer-brewing-kit-5-gallons.html I buy 50lb bags of two-row grain and then the rest of the ingredients individually for a five gallon batch. When measuring out the specified 9 pounds of two-row...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I am doing back-to-back batches of Apfelwein and will likely continue to do so. Should I clean my Better Bottle between each batch and then pitch a fresh yeast pack or should I pour the apple juice right over the old yeast cake? This last batch has been sitting for about three months before...

    New Home Basement Bar

My 2nd wife is fairly laid back. I gave her the larger corner office in the house and did the basement the way I wanted it with a smaller office in it for me. She is from China and used to the squatty potties. She asked why we needed two toilets and I explained the urinal was for #1 only and...

    New Home Basement Bar

Yes, but with lots of asterisk. Generally speaking a quarter sized head or frag of coral goes anywhere from ten bucks to a grand depending on how desirable it is. I started with maybe a dozen heads worth around $50 each. Over the ten plus years the tank was running those small frags grew to...

HERMS better than direct-fired recirculating MLT?

I see a big delay in my grain bed temp from my wort temp. My flow rate may be too low or my bed may be too compacted, or challenging. I used to stop the pump and re-fluff my bed around a half hour in but did not see a jump in effecentcy. I use a fairly coarse grain crush, a little more than a...

HERMS better than direct-fired recirculating MLT?

Agreed! But if you are only heating the bottom of the MT and only have a thermometer in the center of your MT, it will be hard to know how much hotter the wort is under the false bottom then the thermometer reading at the center mass. You could easily go 10 degrees over before the center mass...
