    Hop Growers in Southern California

Question. Was I supposed to be watering my hops over winter when they were dormant? Because I didn't. And it sure didn't rain at all this winter in San Diego. Thanks Oh. And I have a couple in barrels and a couple in the ground.

Pic: Infection or to much trub?

Infected or too much trub? I did get a lot more trub in the carboy than i normally do. Also when i pitched the yeast (wlp008 east coast) it was pretty foamy on top. About 2 inches of foam. Smelled great before drying. Now smells like flowers.

So my hops smelled great before drying. After I dried them i put them in a paper bag for a couple days before I got my vacuum sealer. When i opened the bag to seal them they mostly just smelled like flowers and lost that hops smell. Normal? Or did i do something wrong?

And here they are laid out to dry. I probably could have waited a few more days but I think they are fine. Papery, not very moist and they smell amazing.

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

I harvested today off my first year cascades. I netted ~2 lbs. of hops before drying from 4 plants. Not sure if that's a good net or not.
