    Sourcing Ingredients for Root Beer

Sassafras is also my biggest problem so far. Monterey Bay Spice Co does have sassafras root bark but you can only get it in increments of 1/4 lbs. Then it is $14 per 1/4 lb (or $35 for 1 lb) plus to get it to me shipping is almost $8 just for sassafras. Maybe it is a better deal when you order...

    Sourcing Ingredients for Root Beer

I'm planning on making a batch of root beer and am trying to source my ingredients. I would like to make a non-kit, non-extract batch, so I'm looking for sarsaparilla root, sassafras root, burdock root, etc. I stopped in my LHBS and they had a few things but didn't carry the different roots...

    Hop Rhizome Recommendations?

I haven't ordered them yet but I'm going to start out with cascade, magnum, and willamette. Once these things get established, when it comes to a hop/rhizome exchange count me in. Oh and I'm in Vernon Hills for what it's worth.

    Hop Rhizome Recommendations?

I'm not looking to hijack the thread but I'm also looking for some recommendations. I'm on the north side of chicago so I figure this is appropriate. My plan is to get 3 sets of 2 rhizomes for 6 total. I don't have that many brews under my belt so I'm not sure which hops I will use the most in...

Winter Seasonal Beer Christmas Ale (Great Lakes Clone)

Thanks for your input Shinglejohn. I will definitely give it more time. The first tasting was more of a trial, but I thought that there would at least be a little fizz, although not strong. I was wrong so back to the waiting game. If after 2 more weeks it is still like it is now, what would...

Winter Seasonal Beer Christmas Ale (Great Lakes Clone)

I used the 1028 london ale yeast as the recipe called for. I tried the first 2 just after 2 weeks of being bottled.

Winter Seasonal Beer Christmas Ale (Great Lakes Clone)

Well I missed christmas on this one but its done. Kind of.. and I need some tips. I just cracked open my first 2 bottles the other day, no carbonation and no head. This is only my 4th batch so I'm still learning. Any tips on what I can do to? I had it fermenting at about a 68. Bottle storage has...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I've been considering AG brewing for awhile now and just picked up a large enough brew pot to get me going this weekend. I have a 10 gallon cooler that I'm going to convert to a MLT but I've got a few questions. First, the cooler that FlyGuy used and it seems like a lot of other people have used...

    Just getting started in Homebrewing

I think a big part of it is really going to be finding out what you like. What I have done is gone to a liquor store that has a large selection of beer. The one by me has hundreds of different types, it still amazes me every time I go in there. When I go, I find an employee that I can talk to...

    Smaller Batch Tests

You can also introduce your friends to brewing. That way you can help them when they brew and you can split costs and the final product. Or you can tell people if they buy you ingredients you will brew it and they get the final product as long as you get to keep so many bottles.

Ever put beer in washing machine?

You're not going to want to run you clothes through the dryer every time you want to smell like hops, right? I would concentrate more on filling your house, your car, maybe even your golf bag with hops. Sleep with them, keep them in your pockets, whatever you have to do. Stick with them and they...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Don't know why but it took 2 full days before I got any action out of the fermenter but after that it looked as if it was working to make up for those days lost. I transfered to secondary and bottled. I know it was mentioned this one finished fast but I just let it sit a little longer at each...

Winter Seasonal Beer Holiday Spiced Ale

I've been looking for a recipe for my first spiced recipe and I think this is going to be it. The hardest thing is going to be waiting for it to finish as the holidays roll around. Could anyone convert this to an extract version? I'd do it myself but I don't have my trusty beersmith available at...
