Tubing is white after pbw soak

Did you thoroughly rinse? This is very important with pbw. I recently had this issue after not thoroughly rinsing, being in a hurry.

    Og and fg

Look at the bjcp style guidelines. Also look at the attenuation % of your yeast.

    Sub 1.030 beers

That was a typo, I edited it. Chocolate is ~0.3 black patent is ~0.03 not really sure how necessary that black patent is. It contributes only 3 SRM. I may re-listen to the CYBI episode and see if they mention is. I know people refer to the usage of black patent as waving a few grains over...

    Sub 1.030 beers

    Whoops, that makes more sense. I used 5lb 5oz. Guess I should have thought about that a little more. 70% eff 5 Gal OG 1.029 5lb Maris Otter (74%) 1.25lb crystal 75 (21%) .344lb Chocolate (5%) .0313lb Black Patent (0%) IBU 17.36807862 0.82 oz East Kent Goldings 60 min 13.3 IBU...

    Sub 1.030 beers

I was thinking the same thing. How do you scale such a recipe back in gravity?

    Sub 1.030 beers

Trying to think of what to brew next. Ive been thinking of something similar to a Moose Drool, but want to make it a sub 1.030. I modified for my process and came up with this grain bill og 1.052 2 row pale 7.742 67.7% Chocolate 3.886 25.06% crystal 75 0.893 6.99% Black...

Mash base grains plus adjunct, then steep specialty grains?

This applies in allot of ways to homebrewing. The whole scale thing plays a big part. Listen to the reason behind why the bigs do it, not just the fact that they do it. Many things in mass production comes down to cost.

Mash base grains plus adjunct, then steep specialty grains?

How much specialty grain are you using to make that big of a difference in mash volume?

Mash base grains plus adjunct, then steep specialty grains?

Gordon strong promotes this process for everyone, not just people with small equipment. I heard this on an interview with brad smith i believe. He questions why all of the great brewers are filling their darker beers with brewing salts to compensate for the change in mash ph, when all you need...

    Sub 1.030 beers

Seems to be a common trend that everyone ends up overshooting the og specified here. I might as well join in. This thread inspired me to try a party gyle this weekend. Made a 5 gallon Zombie Dust clone (1.068) og. My second runnings were 1 gallon at 1.038. I BIAB so my efficiency is a...

    Tell me about your pipeline

Is your oat wine 100% oat? I just heard about this style on brew bubbas radio last week. It would be interesting to hear how that turns out.

    Tell me about your pipeline

I found a post by tasymcd over at the morebeer forums that has a description and a link to the episode. These are gems that you find by listening to many many BN shows. Tasty definitely likes to drop these little gems at random. Enjoy this bit of wisdom, its one of many reasons I want a...

    Tell me about your pipeline

Heres my pipeline, I have a year old Barleywine that has aged quite nicely. It has really smoothed out, and isnt quite as harsh as it was when it was fresh. Still got some hoppyness to it, but they are fading. Everything else I have done I have wished I would have finished it while it was...

    Wood heat?

Grew up in a house with wood heat. I was scolded for not jumping to the basement if the gas furnace kicked on, which was set to about 50.
