    Perry throwing weird lees

In the super market. I'm from the Netherlands, so I doubt you would've heard from the brand. It's called Flevosap, and it's a mixture of several local pear varieties such as Doyenne du Comice and Conference. It has been filtered (my guess, because it only has a little residue on the bottom of...

    Perry throwing weird lees

Thanks for your answers everyone. I tasted it today and it tasted pretty good, so I'm less worried. I took a readin which said 1.010, down from an OG of 1.044. I'll check it again in a few days. There was no mould as far as I can tell, but there were a lot of pieces of dried up foam from the...

    Perry throwing weird lees

Hi everyone, About a week ago I started a perry. I used 5 litres (~1.3 gal) of pasteurised, cloudy pear juice with vitamin C. Beforehand, I rehydrated the yeast (Arsegan Medium Sweet Cider Yeast) for 25 minutes in water at the appropriate temperature. I aerated the juice by pouring 1/3 of each...

Adding tea and lemon to the secondary

Hi guys, quick update on this cider. It's turned out quite a bit better with aging. There is a more appley taste to it and the tartness has toned down. It's still too sour though, but on the whole it's quite drinkable. Carbonation and clarity have also improved. So I've changed my mind again...

Adding tea and lemon to the secondary

Sounds like a good idea. I like your idea of lemonde, I might try that as well. Just be careful, tartness comes quick in my experience.

Adding tea and lemon to the secondary

Hi Bensira, They're aging ok, but the sour taste of lemon is too overpowering. The tea adds some needed tannin though, so that's a definite improvement. For my next batch of cider, I think I'll add just the tea (maybe even a little more). If really feel the acidity is lacking, I suggest using a...

Adding tea and lemon to the secondary

Been a while since I've updated. The cider has been bottled and I had my first taste yesterday (after 2,5 weeks of bottle aging). So far the schedule is looking like this: - 2 weeks primary - 2 weeks secondary: added tea and lemon - bottled 15th of February: added 18 grams of demerara sugar...

What one hop should I grow?

Just a sidenote (perhaps you know this already): plant your hops away from the rest of your garden. They can quickly overgrow other plants and are really difficult to remove. Keep an eye out for any 'seeking' branches which are looking to grab onto something. My mom had hops in her garden and...
