    Wyest Activator Yeast question

I wouldn't worry about it at all unless you go close to a week without any activity. With a smack pack it's better to use a starter but the idea is that you shouldn't. While there's plenty of yeast in the pack it's still going to take some time to get going. If you were brewing a bigger beer...

    Vector Assistance

I've used vector magic in the past when I needed something to be cleaned up some. Great little program, don't know if I'd buy it but when your on the road working on something it's a nice help.

    WLP072 French Ale

I just got two vials of it today and I plan on using one of them in a farmhouse style ale as well. Knowing me though I may split up a stout recipe and use a vial on a half batch to see what it tastes like.

    Yeast starter/wort

Just get some dry malt extract and boil it for 15 minutes to get a decent wort. Chill down to 70 and pitch your yeast.

How long will white labs vial last?

This past August I found a White Labs 004 vial in the back of my fridge that expired in March of this year. I completely forgot it was back there and figured I'd see if there was anything left in there. Made a starter and through the yeast into it and about 12 hours later it was bubbling. I then...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Belgian Stout Basically taking my standard Imp Stout recipe and throwing it onto a cake of White Labs 575. Should be fun.

    New member/AG from Philly Burbs

Welcome to the site. My gf is in Newtown Square so I'm down your way quite a bit mostly hanging around Iron Hill in Media. That's a pretty big step going from kits to AG, good luck.

    Do you support your LHBS?

My LHBS store is more of a wine making establishment than it is beer and the staff definitely leans in that direction. The prices for grain are higher than just about everywhere you go and the help tries to help but would rather talk merlot than they would barleywine so I've been turning to...

Denny Conn's Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter

I'll second the Maker's Mark. Did my 1st batch with Jack Daniels and didn't really like it. Makers Mark just finishes better for me.

The scourges of summer: heavy girls in bikinis and flip flops

Who's to blame here? The heavier women for wearing the suits or the bathing suit companies for making them? I wonder if they charge more for bikinis that require 3x the material? And why stop at just the swimwear? In Lewes, DE this weekend I couldn't get over the sheer amount of bellies...

NHL free agency day - July 1st

I can't follow free agency this year seeing how the Flyers got Pronger on Friday. But Chicago over spent on Hossa but he is just what that team needed.

    Nelson Sauvin Hops

A fellow brewer here in town ordered close to 4 pounds of them and has been weighing them out for anyone looking for them. I can ask if he has any left. Mine are going into a standard pale ale as well as a wacky stout I'm working on right now. Should be interesting to say the least.

    Honey Apricot Ale label

This ain't right... all I'm getting is a red x. Sure it's sexy but it makes a terrible beer label. Any help?

    Nelson Sauvin Hops

I was thinking of using it with some Fuggles but I'm not real sure. I may only use the Sauvin for the pale ale and see how it turns out. With 8 oz I'll have plenty left over to fool around with later on anyway. Perhaps a wacky stout of some sort.

    Nelson Sauvin Hops

So I have 8 oz. of these New Zealand hops coming my way next week and was hoping to hear some ideas about what type of brew to use them in. I'm planning on throwing at least a half ounce into a Pale Ale I'll be brewing next week but would love to hear some suggested styles or maybe even a recipe...
