First Recipe: B17 Oatmeal Stout Mk I (PM)

Hey JustARogue, Did you end up brewing this? How did it go? I was thinking about trying it out. Looking for a complex malty stout and this looks pretty good.

    Riwaka pale ale

Hi Mas, Wow this is an old brew. I remember doing this and not being overly impressed with the results. It ended up with very little hops character and tasted pretty underwhelming. I would be tempted to use a little more riwaka and swap to sauvin for something more interesting. I hope that helps

How do you sanitize the valves on corny keg?

I remove the posts and dip tubes for every second beer. You can clean everything and then replace/relube all the washers that way. I often find little bits of hops and other stuff trapped in the valves.

    Falconers flight extra IPA

Your totally correct but the aim was to rack before completing fermentation. So I was recommending a method for that, not for racking at completion of fermentation.

    Falconers flight extra IPA

The majority of brewers have wives/girlfriends that think they are idiots for sniffing airlocks, admiring the clarity and color of a brew, getting excited when we hit our OG perfectly. But if we didn't do it then they wouldn't drink our lovely beer. We should be worshipped for our dedication. Lol

    Help

Btw I always cover my carboy with a towel to ensure there is no light in there. Only consideration should be temperature control. Eg if your room temp is too high you may end up fermenting too hot with the insulation of a towel.

    Help

If its an extract/partial boil batch it's likely your OG is high due to not mixing the top up water before taking your sample. If you have the right volume and its am extract kit then don't worry about gravity, it will be fine. As long as your yeast is healthy and you weren't breathing on the...

    It's a sad day....

Not every day but my last brew session I did 2 batches for myself and one for a mate then the next day I did 2 for a wedding and 1 for a bachelors party. You would be surprised what you can do with two burners, two pots and a cooler mash tun. You just use the time wisely. Actually the hardest...

    It's a sad day....

Inspirational alcoholics lol. Inormally have at least 35-40gal of beer in kegs and can brew up to 3 x 5gal batches in a day. Wait until you start brewing for other people and for their parties. You can easily get into the habit if brewing two or three batches a week

    Falconers flight extra IPA

Every single member on this forum is an airlock sniffer. A little CO2 never hurt anyone and it only adds to the enjoyment.

    It's a sad day....

The only reason I broke the pipeline was because I decommissioned my kit to modify it into a 2 tier setup that has ended up taking a lot longer to complete than I expected.

Are the beginner kits worth spending money on?

The main reason why brewers upgrade their kit is to brew more beer concurrently rather than because of the kit breaking. If you buy a noob kit I guarantee that the first upgrade you will do is purchase another carboy so that you can brew two batches at once.

Are the beginner kits worth spending money on?

The gear you get is good and serves the purpose for your first batches. I have not met too many brewers that didn't start on a kit like that. Your better to buy the kit and do a few batches on it to make sure you like brewing before you start spending money on more kit.

    Chilling wort

What sort of chiller did you make? If its a copper cool immersion chiller then it will do the job without needing to be in a cold water bath. Dump it in 5-10mins from flame out to sanitise it and you will be good to go.
