    Ton of trub

I use a Proper MLT and rice hulls... If you have an Ikea close by you can buy a splatter screen (for frying, thus it is round) and that is a nice way to increase your ability to filter the fine grind in addition to the rice hulls and don't forget to agitate the top of the grain bed during...

    Gluten Free Saison

I believe I ended up with 4 gallons (post boil) from ~8 lbs grain and ~1.5 lbs syrups... Roughly: OG was 1.063 adjusted for temp (1.061 without adjustment): 1.05 OG w/o honey and sorghum 0.009 sorghum 0.002 honey I think the FG (for some reason I did not record it) but it was high, leaving what...

    Gluten Free Saison

One last thing on this recipe folks, I would never use sorghum syrup again. Just use cane sugar.

    Gluten Free Saison

The hold temps are well-known resting temps in brewing for the breakdown of various materials in the grain. Get the book How to Brew, it can teach you a lot about the more technical aspects of grain brewing as well as good reference for just about every other part of the process (not just the...

    AG GF Stout

This is what I ended up brewing with as I was trying to get rid of some of my older grain: 4# pale millet malt 1# pale amaranth malt 1# amber buckwheat malt (home malted/roasted groats) 12 oz Chocolate (chocolate buckwheat Malt, home roasted) 12 oz Crystal (dark caramel millet malt, home...

    Gluten Free Saison

This was my 5th grain batch. My efficiency has improved and so has my understanding of how to deal with the grain (all grain from colorado malting company, specialty was roasted at home except the Teff, that came as a munich roast). Creating crystal malt from GF grains is difficult, they don't...

    Oatmeal Stout Classic Oatmeal Stout

discgolfin, After reading your recipe and looking at several others I decided I liked the balance of yours and so I created a GF recipe based on yours: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/ag-gf-stout-365062/ My grains are ready/roasted, they just need time to rest and then I will brew it just in...

    AG GF Stout

This recipe is based on another stout on this forum: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/classic-oatmeal-stout-88634/ Because the extract potential of Millet and Buckwheat is lower than barley, I am using the same amount of grain and reducing the finished batch size to come closer to the OG...

What would you pay for real GF malt?

Millet by itself probably won't achieve the maltiness you're looking for but maybe the mash can be altered to provide you more of that, maybe compromising a little of the efficiency. Try it and find out. My IPA was a mix of malted ingredients: millet, red millet, sorghum, buckwheat and then I...

What would you pay for real GF malt?

I just bought 45 lbs from CO Malting Co, paid $116 w/ shipping to Denver from Alamosa (not too far)... With my current efficiency (not good) I would need about 10lbs grain for 5 gallon batch of 5.0% abv beer. About $30 for grain for that batch. + 1.8 lbs rice hulls + yeast + hops... Not bad...

What would you pay for real GF malt?

I don't think that is true. Found 3 barley grains in just 1 lb of a 5 lb bag in my recent order of buckwheat from them. Not a big deal for me, but I think that proves that they just don't have the capacity in their establishment to dedicate much of anything to their GF offerings. Furthermore...

What would you pay for real GF malt?

I agree that a true brew experience with GF can only come from grain. I don't know exactly what Greens is doing that they can't make a better product (especially with such a hefty price) because, as you pointed out, they are brewing from grain. I have one batch of IPA I believe is a "good beer"...

    Are my hops ready?

We broke several records here in Denver, hottest day ever (105), most 90+ degree days (62 so far, avg is 40)... What I did is harvest as much of the lupulin as possible (using a sifter and lightly crushing the hops) and I am "dry hopping" with that and some store-bought cascade in my recent All...

    Are my hops ready?

UWBucky, thanks for the info and hey, Nice Cones you got there! I think I had some tough conditions for my hops... Plenty of water and nutrients, but we had a ton of wind this year and my structure is minimal (just one vertical per shoot/bine of coated stainless steel wire), so they took some...
