    Apfelwein Ruined?

Well, they both taste fine. Guess I was just looking for an excuse to not have to bottle them. I had to sell my kegerator a while back, and the thought of bottling is terrible. But having 10 gallons of apfelwien to sip on will help me get through the day.

    Apfelwein Ruined?

Thanks for the quick reply, Revvy. The ridiculousness of my question hit me as soon as I hit the post button. Apfelwein for breakfast, coming up.

    Apfelwein Ruined?

I started two batches if apfelwein about 8 months ago, and they have been sitting in my closet since then. I am excited because I have never aged apfelwein past 3 or 4 months, but I am worried because the only reason I have made it this far is because I haven't been brewing at all and have...

Did I Screw Up My Yeast?

Thanks, Brewham. One thing that's bugging me now is that I'm not seeing anything sitting on the bottom of the bottle. There is a 1/4 inch layer of what looks like yeast in the bottom of the airlock, but nothing on the bottom of the actual starter. If the yeast has stopped growing, shouldn't...

Did I Screw Up My Yeast?

So I just made a starter (for a blue moon clone) yesterday around 5PM, and I opened up my closet this morning and it has crept all the way up into the airlock. I've made a number of starters the same way and never had this happen. Should I be worried? A few details: -I used 6 tsp. of wheat...

Transferring the Wort Into the Carboy

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I unfortunately don't have an extra bucket or pot, but I do have a kitchen strainer that I think I'll hold over the funnel when I'm pouring. It has been used to strain pasta before, but hopefully it should be okay for pouring the beer through once I...

Transferring the Wort Into the Carboy

It's just a big red pot that holds about 3 gallons. I'm using liquid extract and just steeping some grains.

Transferring the Wort Into the Carboy

When I put my wort through the funnel, the screen part catches a ton of stuff. Usually I have to spend about 45 minutes pouring the wort in because I have to stop and stir for a while and then scoop out the green gunk (not sure what it's called at this point). This guy at the brew mart told me...

    Possibly Dumb Yeast Question

Thanks. Because it is a pretty high alcohol beer, would I be alright just pitching a whole packet/vial of yeast into half a batch?

    Possibly Dumb Yeast Question

So I'm planning on doing a half batch of the Chimay Blue clone recipe from [i]Beer Captured[i] in my 5 gallon secondary. I'm planning on just using the 5 gallon as the primary, leaving it in there for a few weeks, and then bottling it (no secondary). I noticed that the recipe calls to pitch a...

Do I Need a Second Dose of Yeast?

So I'm planning on doing a half batch of the Chimay Blue clone recipe from [I]Beer Captured[I] in my 5 gallon secondary.
