Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

Currently fermenting a NB Patersbier with Wyeast Trappist High Gravity. It's been going strong over the past 2 days, but now the bubbles are down to one every 5-10seconds. The only thing I can think of that is slowing it down would be my basement temp. It's sitting at about 64 right now, which...

    Awful Brew Day

Yeah, I definitely started losing my composure a bit once the straining issue happened. I was a little less strict about the sanitation of my wyeast packet, and in between it being slippery and me being frazzled, some of the yeast went all over my hand and into the beer. Praying it's a very...

    Awful Brew Day

I've read that a lot of people do that, but there is so much of a debate between doing that and straining. Luckily, I used moss which hopefully will help. I think it's my beginners nerves getting to me a little bit. I'm sure over time the beer will clear up.

    Awful Brew Day

Anyone have a brew day so bad that even the thought of beer makes you want to smash something? Well, today yielded just that. I was making a simple extract batch of NB Patersbier. After a smooth boil, I got the wort cooled down to pitching temps in under an hour, then I started to...

    Bell's Hopslam

I managed to score the last bottle available (or so I was told) at Pinocchio's Beer Garden in Media, PA tonight. While it was pretty damn good, I really can't believe there is so much hype surrounding it. The best part was that I was able to drink it right on the spot, and afterwards shared a...

    Squall 90 Minute IPA

This is easily my favorite brew from Dogfish, and I've had nearly all of them multiple times being a nearby resident of the brewpub. It's a wonderfully drinkable IPA that has strong citrusy and tropical flavors that I usually don't find in most IPA's.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I was thinking of making this soon to have it available for spring/summer. Anyone experimented with adding fresh fruit to fermentation? And if so, when is the best time to do so and how much?

Best place to buy pint glasses

Any decent kitchen store will usually have a section devoted to beer glasses. I got a case of 12 standard pints about 2 years ago that ran me about $15.

Worst beer you have ever made/had.

Sam Adams Infinium. Disgustingly buttery, stale cider-like mess. I bought one bottle of it that I tried tonight, and got another bottle for Christmas which now I'm going to try to get rid of.

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

I just brewed an extract IPA on 12/21, and during the first 3 days of fermentation the airlock was actively farting away and some nice heady krausen had formed. Now, last night we had a little bit of an cold swing in my basement. It went from 65 to about 59, which is extremely unusual. Anyway...

    Preparing for first Brew Day

I actually have an IC. A good friend and I are doing this, and we figured we'd get almost everything we'd need now and in the future to produce good beer via kits, partials, etc. while we had the money to do so, haha.

    Preparing for first Brew Day

How's it going, guys? It's my first post here, and I figured I'd latch on to an already existing thread. I've been lurking around here gathering information since I got my first kit about a week ago after reading several brewing related books, and a lot of it has been very helpful (and...
