    Help w/ RIMS troubleshooting

Thanks again, that solved the problem! Now, the replacement heating element I purchased won't fit into the tube. I'd been using a 240v 4500w straight element...not really happy with the performance, so i bought this 120v 1500w fold back element thinking it might be slightly more...

    Help w/ RIMS troubleshooting

Ahh...thanks for that. I'll plug the heating element back in and give it a try. I do have a small LED indicator light jumped off the leads for the element, so I can easily tell when the element is firing or not. It's constantly on (but dim) and gets brighter when the PID calls for...

    Help w/ RIMS troubleshooting

Hello, I have a RIMS system that I purchased from a private seller about five years ago. With just normal maintenance, it's worked great since I've had it...up until now. I'm kind of a noob when in comes to electrical, but I'm not a total idiot. I've traced the wiring, so I think i have a...

    Cherry Gose...how much cherries?

So I'm just finishing up primary on a batch of cherry Gose. I did a 12 gallon batch (10 gallon finished product), which I split into halves...half was boiled as usual and put into ferment. Second half was "kettle" soured with L. Plantarum for about 60 hours, then boiled, hopped, etc as usual...

Northern Brewer goes to "Free" shipping.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I dig the free shipping deal. I'm kind of over buying kits, I order hops in bulk from other suppliers so I really only need NB for yeast and malt. I don't see a change in yeast pricing, and 50# sacks of grain are significantly cheaper than anywhere else mail...

When to harvest spruce tips for beer?

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm more questioning if the tips I'm using could be TOO new? It's definitely new growth tips, but they don't smell very piney, and when chew them up, they don't taste piney at all, kind of just a green vegetal taste. In your analogy above, you're thinking like...

When to harvest spruce tips for beer?

I'd like to try using some spruce tips in an upcoming brew. I've read that blue spruce are among the best for use in beer and I have a nice one in my yard. I've also read that you want to use just the fresh growth "tips" that grow each spring. I harvested a few oz of fresh growth tips just...

    Mango IPA, thoughts?

I’ve never been able to extract much flavor out of mangoes. Have you thought about adding a few drops of mango oil or flavoring?
