    21 year mead

    I was thinking the same thing. What if they don’t like mead?!? I would go for Natty but instead something darker. When so many of us turned 21 we didn’t have the variety of beers available to us. I started drinking my dad’s beer (Rolling Rock) haha

    Airlocked foamed over so I made a makeshift blow off. Does this look right?

    I always do 5 gallon batches (beer, mead, cyser) and all of my fermenters have sufficient head room (I never gave it much thought). As far as OG...I would have to go back and look at all my recipes. My temps were always very consistent because I was fortunate to have two furnaces and two A/C...

    21 year mead

    I stumbled upon this thread which started in 2007. I see people looking for updates. If I was the person who made mead and shelved it for 21 years, the only update I could provide is how many bottles were left! I’d keep drinking them but hopefully have two left when the person hits 21 years...

    I never had to use a blow off. (never foamed up that much). What am I doing right? What am I doing wrong?

    How do you all cool your wort?

    I use a wort chiller (homemade, as described above), and set my fermenter in my slop sink. I also clog the drain and let the water rise and cool the outside of the fermenter...because even though the water has gone through the wort chiller it is still cooler than the fermenter.
