    Canadian Supplier of Hop Rhizomes?

I am in Edmonton and also considering getting some hops this year. It looks like there is still stock but prolly need to get on it soon! Did you guys end up ordering some hops this year? I am currently doing research to find the hardiest / best yielding variety for the climate. I only have...

    Oak essence?

I used an oak extract in my oaked Irish Red. It was an alchohol based extract. I just added to taste in the keg. It starts out with a strong whiskey taste but it mellows after a month or so.

    Beer Smith Question

I went straight to partial mashes when I brewed so take this with a grain of salt. From the Third Edition of How to Brew, page 135, Palmer lists the extract potential of steeping grains. Medium crystal yields 18 gravity points per pound per gallon (ppg). In a 5g batch that works out to 3.6...

What was your first AG Brew?

My first AG was a bitter as well. I played around with a few partial mashes so it was a fairly smooth transition. I am still working on dialing in the temperatures and volumes but I am getting there. It is well below freezing here and it looks like it is snowing but I intend to brew a lager...

    Classic American Pilsner

I know this isn't that common of a style but does anyone have some advice? If not, I should have some experience to relate in about 6 weeks! I am pretty excited to make a historic style. From what I have been able to dig up it sounds like it should be an excellent beer.

    Classic American Pilsner

I plan to brew this this weekend and was wondering what your thoughts were. I thought I would try first wort hopping and I adjusted the IBU to be the same as for a 20 min addition. Was this the way to go? I also added the dextrine malt because I listened to the Jamil show on CAPs and and he...

    Sptifire Label

Coming from an Englishman, I am quite happy to hear that. Thanks! I gave it to him today, we are going to the wife's family for Christmas so he got an early present. It is the first bitter I have made and after trying it today, I think it will become my new favourite!

    Sptifire Label

Here is my first stab at a label, it isn't too fancy but I like it: It is the name of the AG kit I bought so I thought I would run with it. No real significance to it. As you can see, it is for a gift.
