I making a blueberry hefei. I'm planning on using sorbate in the secondary to keep the yeast from eating up the sugar in the fruit. Question I need answered is, if I add sorbate to the secondary can I still bottle prime?
I did my brewing yesterday as far as doing the mash and laundering buy didn't boil until today. I notice the wort has an odd smell to it, almost like spoiled hamburger. Do you think it's still safe to boil down and ferment?
It's probably poison or worse radioactive from fall out. Box it up and send it to me for further testing:-)
Should be fine lots of people leave it on the primary that long.
My brother-in-law has stage 4 colon cancer. He used to drink at least a 6 pack a day. Don't know if happened cause he's an alcoholic, miller lite is bad for you or none of the above. I won't stop brewing and drinking it.
When I did brew in a bag I did it differently. I mashed my grain in a brew kettle put the bag in a plastic pale and pour the hole thing in a bag after an hour. Then all I had to do was pick up the bag/grains the let it drain. I put this back into my kettle an sparged. No worries over a burnt...
I did something similar to this before I built my MLT. I found it was easier to put the strainer bag in my catch container. The drain hole will set up similar to a manifold. What still comes through you catch in your strainer bag. It's much easier pulling out a small amour of grain in your bag...
I think I figured out what went wrong. I think my thermometer got knocked off by about 13 degrees. When I thought I was mashing at 154 I was actually mashing around 141.
