Honey ale, why are you such a jerk to me?

I brewed a honey ale kit from Midwest Supplies and had similar trouble. I bottled 6 and put the rest in a keg. After 3 or 4 month it was so unpalatable (can't remember if it was sour - don't have notes with me) I dumped the keg. Recently I tried the bottled portion, and around 2 years after...

    Insulating a keezer

I used foam insulation that comes as a roll with adhesive where you peel off backing from a home improvement store to seal betwen the wood and top of the freezer. To seal the corners of the wood I used silicone caulk. The top of the collar is sealed by the original gasket (make sure its making...

    Local Honey source Chicagoland??

My first batch of mead is fermenting right now. I used Sunny Hill Honey (from the website: "Sunny Hill Honey is harvested within 50 miles of the Marengo plant producing truly local honey"). They only have regular clover honey. http://www.sunnyhillhoney.com It's available all over...

    Soapy IPA

Hard to tell. I had a soapy beer once, but it was in the primary 6 weeks. The soapiness did diminish to barely noticeable by 8 weeks after transferring out of the primary - so not all hope is lost.

    Lager cold pitch questions

If the fermentations is done in the starter, I would suggest putting the starter in the fridge for at least a day. It will help the yeast settle out, and then you can decant the starter beer off before pitching the slurry. The yeast should be at the same temperature as the wort or cooler to...

    Double Container Change before Kegging?

Most sediment that ever comes out of the keg comes out the first pull if you leave it undisturbed. Some people here that go straight from primary to keg, cut their dip tubes a little shorter to avoid drawing any sediment or getting a clogged tube.

    Am I right?

you could do that, but with very little head space it would take quite a few shots and/or very high pressure.

kegerator drill bit and tubing length

To make a clean hole 1. drill your pilot hole from the outside 2. go half-way through w/ hole saw or other kind of bit (I can't recommend because I used a wooden collar) 3. drill from the inside to complete the opening, using the pilot hole as a guide

    Holiday 6.8 Hinge

The 5.3 cuft Holiday has a spring on one side only so it is definetely a possibility. It stays up fine, so I never tried to adjust the spring (and my collar is not attached to the lid).

Future of 5L Draft Beer Kegerators

OH SNAP! there's more flavor in a pint of Spaten than in that whole mini-keg of Coors!

    Swing top Growler issues...

Growlers aren't made for carbonating in, just for short term storage of already carbonated beer. The CO2 probably leaked out, which is a good thing since others have had growler "bombs". There are pressure rated growlers but I don't think you have one. Remember the pressure at carbonating...

    Problem with tap handles

get Perlicks when those break I bet using a spray bottle full of starsan pointed up into the taps and several squirts to wash the beer off the mechanics would help

    Never say Never OOPs

Was one of the three other things you were doing drinking some homebrew? That's what messes up my brewdays. But in the end, you will have good beer I'm sure!
