    Cherry Berry Mead

    never used that yeast, what temp. range is best for it? some yeast prefer mid 60's or they start throwing off bad flavors. Jim

    Potassium Sorbate a bad thing?

    As newbies we are told to not add packaged fruit/juice if it has potassium sorbate in it as it will inhibit or stop fermintation. But if your mead is in the secondary and clear when you add it is it bad to stop fermintation ? seems it may prevent bottle bombs. Jim

    I just finished a 1 gal. raspberry mead and I waited to add the fruit until the secondary. I bought a 10 oz. package of frozen raspberries allowed them to thaw and refroze them, allowed them to thaw and come to room temp, placed them in a nylon stocking and then into the secondary. Let them...

    Just added Raspberries to my secondary, Real nice color and a pretty good flavor. Will it retain some or all of the color or will it age out clear?

    Heat during fermentation?

    What yeast did you use? I used a stormcastle recipe that called for Lavin D-47 or bread yeast, I used D-47 and found out it works best under 68*. Jim (59*-68* for Lavin D-47)

    Not much experiance, I used D-47 on a 1 gal. batch and it bubbled lke yours at about once every 8 seconds and got slower to the point of almost stopping at 30 days. Started a second batch, same recipe but for 5 gal. still only one packet of D-47 and the wife stirred the crap out of the must...

    Drinking during first mead batch

    Just started a 5 gal. batch of show and pitched at about 100 deg. within 6 hrs the airlock was perking about every 3 sec. I used D-47 as well. Jim

    Man I hope your alright,I started mt first batch on 10/13 and it looked just like yours.I think the foam is just the gass from fermitation. Jim

    So if you want to brew a 5 gal. batch do you use a packet per gallon or what? haven't seen to many 5 gal reciepes that show more than type of yeast. Jim
