    My 1st AG Batch

So I just bottled my first all-grain batch and I'm also reading John Palmer's "How to Brew" (great read so far). My attempt was/is a Dogfish Head 90 Minute clone (one of my fav. brews) via BeerSmith2. The taste at bottle time was inspiring. It truly had that toast-taste I was hoping for. That...

    Rookie Mistake - Mash Fail!

So today was my first AG batch. Been doing extracts in one form or the other for a couple years now. Anyway, didn't get my mash temp high enough I think. Volumes seemed good by my OG was down around 1.054. That would be great I suppose but I was doing a Dogfish Head 90 Min clone and it was...

Help me design a wort chiller with 50' 3/8"

Yea wasn't too bad cleaning so far BUT...if you let too much sludge get in while siphoning it will most definitely clog on you. Good luck w/ the project. It will work good I'm sure. A lot better than a sink filled with ice! :)

Help me design a wort chiller with 50' 3/8"

Hey beertastic, Well I'm new to brewing myself but after seeing a couple videos using drop-in style chillers and counter-flow chillers, I decided to go for it and make a counter-flow. It took my 200 degree wort down to tap water temperature in the time it took to siphon it! I just put a little...

Counter-Flow Wort Chiller - Lube Not Needed (sorta)

So before I made mine I read a bunch of a posts about how to get the copper tubing through the hose. You might think that pushing a 3/8" OD tube inside of a 5/8" ID hose would be easy but as everyone says...it's not. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense that it would be difficult...

    Newbe from Mechanicsville (Richmond) VA

What's up Lorton VA! Woodbridge!!! Yea...so I've tried a number of bottles from my first brew and have found some differences between them. A buddy suggested to me that next time I bottle that I should fill each only 1/2 way...then go back and fill the rest. Kinda makes sense I guess. I...

Yea! I like beer. I like making beer (so far). Gonna go drink my new beer now. Take a look @ my blog (on this site) if you're interested in how I made this huge beast I call...well...haven't named it yet but it's about 9% of awesome goodness. :mug:

Very strong alcohol taste to beer

Just followed the instructions to a tee. That is...w/ the exception of jacking up my kit w/ a boat load of additional fermentables. OG at about 1.0725. After 4 days the bubbling slowed to about every 10-15 seconds. And just as instructed, I racked. Current reading was 1.0100 @ 71 degrees so...
