Ordinary Bitter Ol' Bitter Bastard (2013 NHC Gold medal)

Well, I'm finally drinking my version of this brew. Due to brewing on a tight timeline and the limited bulk grain availability at my local shop, I had to make quite a few substitutions. The grain available was all Breiss, so I used C10 and C90 instead of the C15 and C85. I also used English...

This sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing, and congratulations. I'll be brewing this one this week!

Jade IPA Foothills looking for recipe. Thx

For what it's worth, I see folks using American Ale yeast for their Jade IPA clone recipes. Foothills, however, uses Wyeast London ESB (1968) yeast as their house yeast. At least, that's what I was told by one of their brewers.

English Porter Brown Porter (AG) (UK/US)

Brewing this one today. Went with Golden Promise as the base, and I think I'm going to move 1oz. of the bittering hops to a FWH addition. Mashing now, and it looks and smells delicious. But then, doesn't it always? Would also love to hear back from Orfy about his "tweaks".

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

Brewed this up about 6 weeks ago, and ran a parti-gyle off the grist. The RIS tasted excellent when transfered to secondary last week, like the best expresso I've ever had, but beer. Can't wait for the winter when I'll be drinking this. I'm going to add some bourbon-soaked oak chips about a...

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Mashing this one right now. My God, it smells delicious! Will have to sub Nugget hops, but I have a very good feeling about this!

    Simple Isinglass question -

Yes, the wine is quite clear. Last night was the second racking, and the finings were pitched at that time. In other words, what is resting on the bottom now is whatever has precipitated out with the isinglass. I'm wondering if disturbing that fining/sediment will cause irreparable...

    Simple Isinglass question -

I'm a novice homebrewer helping my wife in what is our first experience making wine. We've just racked the wine out of secondary for clarifying. Sulfite and Potassium Sorbate have been added, as well as Isinglass. We were supposed to top off the wine with water, but didn't have any...

    Alternatives to CO2 manifold?

Thanks guys, this is very helpful! Just ordered some new Perlicks (No more picnic taps!), and I'll be doing some plumbing soon.

    Alternatives to CO2 manifold?

So I've got a 3 keg system running on dual regulators. I need to split one of the lines at least two ways. Do I really need a manifold, or can I just put a T-connection in one of the lines? I don't really see what the difference would be. What are the pros and cons? I'm looking to hook up...

    Help choosing a Belgian yeast?

Those who mash with squash (as opposed to adding it to just the boil) often say that it makes for a very sticky mash. Rice hulls tend to be a pretty common recommendation. For $0.95/lb, I figured it was a reasonable precaution.

    Help choosing a Belgian yeast?

Thank you all, you've been very helpful! I picked up a vial of the 550 today and will be going with that. Here's my recipe, for anyone who is interested. Critiques are welcome. Butternut Belgian Golden Ale 11 lb. Bohemian Pilsner 1 lb. White Wheat 1 lb. Belgian Candy Sugar Roasted...

    Help choosing a Belgian yeast?

Thanks, guys. I've been looking at the sites for Wyeast and White Labs, but it's a lot to sort through. There are a few strains I'm looking at, such as WLP 410 and 351, but I'd love to hear first hand experience/recommendations if anyone has it. Another question: What might I expect in...

    Help choosing a Belgian yeast?

Could anyone help a newby by recommending a good Belgian yeast with a few specific characteristics? I'm planning something along the lines of a Belgian Golden. What I want is a yeast that will give off lots of spicy flavors (clove, nutmeg, etc), but very little if any tropical fruit flavors...

British Brown Ale Fat Squirrel clone

Brewed this up tonight. Used MO instead of the Pils, and my LHBS didn't have any Caravienne on hand, so I subbed Carabelge. At flameout, I also tossed in a tiny bit of fresh cascade I had on hand. Because, well, it was there. Subbing the Carabelge for the Caravienne was a stab in the dark...
