new Northern Brewer catalog. megapot 1.2

I have a 15 gal. Blichmann that is weldless and there hasn't been a single leak. Don't sweat it. We've made a good choice.

new Northern Brewer catalog. megapot 1.2

I just pulled the trigger on the 30 gallon. I'm going to make it my mission to post some pictures so folks can make a more educated purchase than I did. Northern Brewer no longer flat rate ships BTW. $29 to ship Giganta-Kettle and his sidekick Giganta-Screen. I'm almost a 1 BBL brewery!

new Northern Brewer catalog. megapot 1.2

Sigh. I was so excited for the 30 gallon pot, but I'm not $400 excited for weldless fittings. Guess I'll have to resort to my welding buddy to see what he can do. Waffle time! If I purchased the drilled and weldless fitting pot couldn't I hire a dude down the line to weld some ports on to...

Are the ball valve and therm ports welded or just drilled?

Wiring a Chugger Pump to a light switch help

The all in one GFI unit is nice, but consider this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HAVVKG/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 It gives remote control of your pump from anywhere. Prior to picking this up I spent many a paniced moment trying to unplug my pump while quarts of wort spewed across my...

How do I keg my HB?

    1. Search is your buddy. 2. Anyone willing to sell you a keg kit has a "how to" on their site. I bought my first set up from keg connection and was pleased with the results. 3. It's just like bottling except you only fill one bottle and with some tweaking you can have fully carbed beer in...

    Aluminum Sparge Tank?

Don't worry about the whole Alzheimer's thing. The guy who did that study was later debunked, or something along those lines. The amount of aluminum you would ingest from using it as a sparge pot would be so minimal it would be impossible to detect.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Five gallons of Raspberry Wheat Ale. Girlfriends beer of choice, and I'm looking forward to kegging it this time instead of bottles.

    Getting back into brewing soon

When I started brewing I used The Joy of Homebrewing and then started trying to develop my own recipes and or using the recipes on this site. Xmas last year I was given Brewing Classic Styles and I have been brewing exclusively from it ever since. My beer has gone from getting "Meh" reactions...

    Caps leaking C02?

When I was bottling I would fill and my girlfriend would cap. Not a single leak. Be careful about pushing too hard. Some of the guys on here have stories about breaking bottles while capping.

Raspberry Wheat + High Mash Temp = Sweeter Fruit Flavor?

I searched and searched and could not find any info on this. :drunk: My thinking is that if I use a higher mash temp (156?) on a wheat/rye beer there will be more unfermentable sugars that will aid in bringing out the flavor of the raspberries. If you are familiar with McMenamins Ruby ale...

    Always Bottle!

It was one of the first things I told him but strangely enough he hangs out here. It also turns out that he tasted a 1.063 porter on day 10 of fermentation. No wonder he thought he had a loser! Several huge FB messages later he is chilling out on the fast judgments.

    Brewing Classic Styles

Just to bump this and to keep it updated: I swear by this book! I have made 10 recipes from it and am quite pleased with the results. I went from bottling HBT recipes to kegging Brewing Classic Styles recipes and I have seen a huge improvement in my beers. If you brew five gallon batches and...

    Always Bottle!

I "failed" a new brewer, and I didn't even have a chance to help. A friend of a friend on Facebook remarked that he was sad that his porter was too bitter. I shot him an email telling him to stash the bottles in a cool place (65-70F) for a month and to try it again. Turns out he was talking...

    Pumpkin in Mash?

Pumpkin in the mash is not only advised but also fun! A lot of people seem to think that brewing is supposed to be an easy hobby. Of course, those with huge amounts of work/family responsibilities need every break they can get! Those of us with the ability to spend the time necessary to try any...
