    Hooked On Your Own Brew(s)?

My 7th and 8th AG batches (a saison and a black ipa) turned out so awesome I think I might get even more hooked...I'm finally brewing AG beers that I REALLY like and that's extremely rewarding

Have you tasted it as of yet? What's it like?

New Danstar Belle Saison Dry Yeast?

Just bottled a rye saison with this yeast (75% pilsner, 19% rye malt, 6% table sugar, perle for bittering an styrian goldings for flavor and aroma). Fermented for around 4 weeks @ ~72ºF. The OG was 1.059 and the FG was 0.999 :rockin: I'm not sure how to describe the hydrometer sample, but the...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Writing my master's thesis...gonna be an engineer soon! Fortunately related with fermentation. Also, daydreaming about brewing, already thought of 5-6 recipes I want to try as soon as I'm done with this little thesis f@ck#r

    Sour Beers

Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of sour beers, but from my experience Verhaeghe's Duchesse de Bourgogne is great for an introduction. A lot of my non-beer-savvy friends have tried it, and most of them really liked it. It's got this vinegary sourness, with port and malt sweetness...

    Culturing yeast from frozen fruit

I had also been thinking about the wine, it's an interesting idea. I think I'll make the wine out of the ripest ones then, and try and save the less ripe for when I actually have time. Thanks!

    Culturing yeast from frozen fruit

Hey all, just a quick question. A friend of mine brought me strawberry tree fruits (not strawberries though, the latin name is Arbutus unedo). It's common for these fruits to enter spontaneous fermentation after some time. Here in Portugal some people make a spirit from this fruit's "wine". So I...

Grain Bill for american black ale

Unfortunately c-hops (and new world hops) are really hard to find here, with mostly cascade being available (and almost 10 usd per 100g), although I could source some amarillo for this one. I also have some styrian goldings around, thought I'd use it @ 15 min, what do you think? This hop...

Grain Bill for american black ale

Yeah, I tried to get some carafa but no dice, so I thought I'd use the chocolate wheat and regular chocolate malt, especially because I still want some coffee/chocolate tones besides the color. I think I'll kick the melanoidin then, although I'd still like some maltiness. Thanks!

Grain Bill for american black ale

Hey everyone, I've been wanting to try to make a black ipa/cascadian dark ale/ whatever. The only commercial example I remember trying (besides one I tried years ago that I don't really remember) was brewdog's libertine black ale. I really liked that it was more than just an IPA with a black...

    Gose in Nordrhein-Westphalen

Hey everyone, I'm currently living in NRW (Aachen). Does anyone know where I can buy some Gose? I can't seem to find any GOOD Getränkemarkt/bottle shop in the area.

What I did for beer today

Not today, but yesterday took place the beginning of our campus's homebrew club. Spent almost 500€ on equipment and ingredients for the first batch ( a simple AG APA). Craft beer is finally gathering some interest in Portugal and homebrewing is booming. I gave a primer on homebrew to about 15...
