    Bug identification

Finally think I found out what this thing is. Picture-winged Fly. Now to figure out why it likes to hang out on my hops so much.

Hop Pests ID thread: Pics, descriptions and solutions

They could be lacewing eggs, lacewings are a very good bug to have around your hops. Google lacewing eggs and see if they look like that.

That's an eyed click beetle. Plant juice feeder with wood boring grubs, not one of the "good" insects but dunno if they feast on hops or not.

    Bug identification

I bought two egg cases (mantis ootheca) from a vendor on amazon.com. I've hatched about 70 or so mantids and released a few. I want to have the rest molt once or twice so they're more likely to survive, I have them on a diet of fruitflies now.

    Bug identification

I find these all over my hops and flick them off, I'm thinking they're not good as I see them poking their butts at (into?) the hops stem. Anyone know what this is? Some sort of wasp I figure. I'm deploying a mass of these to help combat these and other insects:

    2nd Attempt at brewing Question

not sure exactly what it is, but from the name and the description of usage, I would guess it's some sort of yeast nutrient.

    Vinegar smell

Verdict: It tastes good! Even begged and managed to get the wife to try it and she said it tastes fine too. I wasn't sure if I had just gotten used to the vinegar I was smelling so wanted a second opinion. Guess the fumes just built up in the head-space of the bucket and let out a huge whiff...

The glass one tastes good, once I finish bottling that, I'll dare a taste of the plastic one...I'm betting it tastes good and I'll bottle it, but we'll see in a few minutes

    Vinegar smell

Brewed up some of Edwort's Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter. Placed it in a glass primary and a plastic primary bucket. The glass primary I racked to a secondary to free up the primary for another brew. Today I go to bottle, the glass one smells nice and the FG is pretty good. I open the...

How much in and how much out

I think this would be the SG you take to check efficiency, but your OG reading should be after the boil which is the Gravity reading you're going to be using to calculate ABV%

    Broken Carboy Club

Broke my first carboy about a week ago, I think. Basically, I had just sanitized it in preparation to receive a new batch of beer. I left it on the kitchen floor, and when I came back about half an hour later, it had a spider crack in the side of it. Can't figure out if my son threw something...

    Dead Yeast??

How did you rehydrate? How do you know it's not fermenting, hydrometer readings?

    Mistake with yeast

You could check the yellow pages for a local supply shop, or some website such as: Homebrewers Association | Find a Homebrew Supply Shop And look for a shop that is nearby to buy some brewer's yeast at. As far as dead yeast, it can probably be used as yeast nutrient.

    Fermentation Blow Out

When lagering, sanitizer often gets sucked down into people's brew and they have no problems, you shouldn't have problems either.
