    Man, I love Apfelwein

I guess the first reason. I did add it to some cheap soda but it ended up taking on the taste of the soda. I will try with more apple juice or the cinnamon sticks. Thanks.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I'm a first time user on this thread. Greetings everyone. I did an apfelwein last fall and could only manage a two month wait to bottle. I was a bit disappointed. Will try again and hold out for the recommended 6 months. Is there any reason I can't use the recipe with other fruit juices...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Oops!!! I meant 2.36kg not 1.36 but it still is expensive. To change the subject, I am noticing that on my JOAM the bung has moisture / water droplets on the underside. Is this normal or is something happening with the temp inside and outside the jar. I water is dropping into the...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

just made and bottled my first Apfelwein but I noticed moisture/water droplets on the underside of the bung after it was racked and stabalized. Is this normal? I did use a water cooler bottle so I am not certain it was airtight? Anything to worry about?

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Thanks anyway for the sad news. Everything I've looked for is wat too expensive I do do an Apfelwein but with regular sugar because that is all there is. Cheapest apple juice here is $2 per liter (Ceres) Treetops is $11 a gallon. I have calculated that the cheapest thing to brew is...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

This question will no doubt be frowned upon but, considering the price of honey here in South Korea, (cheapest I've seen being an USA import - clover honey 1.36kg at $31 is it possible to use a mixed honey i.e. corn syrup 90% / real honey 10% (cheapest price $11 for 2kg):( Will it make a...

    Jelly Wine 1 Gallon Question

thanks Just to clarify - I was thinking of the use of the campden tablet as a bacteria-killer on the fruit pre-fermentation. Is it still increased or is 1 enough for 5 gallons-worth of fruit - since there won't be 5 gallons worth of water in there yet.

    Jelly Wine 1 Gallon Question

Sorry! Noob question. I want to do a 5 / 6 gallon version of a Jack Keller recipe. Do I increase absolutely everything by 5 / 6 except the yeast & campden tablet?

1 Barter Ginger Beer & No Strings Ginger Ale recipes

Hi all, I am wanting to make a bigger batch size, say a gallon or 2. Do I also have to increase the yeast as well as everything else? Also a cup of ginger seems to be a lot to begin with - upping this will give me a lot of ginger to deal with. Finally, limes are impossible to get so will a...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Just made a JOAM 10 liter batch 6 hours ago; 6.5 lbs honey 5 tangerines (peeled) 1 tsp cinnamon 1 clove .5 tsp nutmeg. big handful of raisins 1 tsp instant dry yeast nothing is happening - no airlock activity. My last batch was bubbling like crazy after 6 hours but I did not use any spices...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Sorry to change the subject but I think I should know how many liters you all are talking about when you say 1 gallon. Where I am in South Korea we don't use gallons - so how many liters are we talking about for a 1 gallon batch - 4 or 5. I don't want to end up messing the batch with not...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I managed to find these two types of fermenter online and so I am wondering if anyone can foresee any problems if I use them for JOAM? They seem rather wide at the top. Do you think they are worth buying. The red/green one is 25 litres and costs about $23. The blue one is 10 litres and costs...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Thanks to LoneTreeFarms and Creamygoodness. I'll stick with the yeast I've got and give it one more go. Honey is the killer though - its big bucks over here in Korea.

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I am disappointed about the indifference and rudeness shown by the majority of the responses. No, I am not "trolling" - whatever that means. My question was a serious one about the type of bread yeast. Unless you have lived in Korea you have no clue about the difficulties trying to get...
