    MD/DC grain

Put me down for 2 sacks of pilsner and 1 sack of pale malt. Thanks.

    Pressure question

If you have a highly carbed beer, and want to prevent excessive foaming, while keeping the carb level constant, use long beer lines 8-10'.

    race track lids

You would be wise to put some keg lube on the standard type O ring. I've found they tend to leak otherwise. I believe some homebrew supply stores carry the flat O rings. Try Williams Brewing.

    How long off the gas?

The fuller the keg, the fewer the beers you'll be able to serve without a source of co2 pushing the beer. If its full, you'll get only 2-3 pints, if it's 1/2 full, you could serve over a gallon, maybe 2. The beers will pour slower and get flatter as the keg empties.

    didn't get good carbonation

Revvy, your response has to become a sticky. How many times has this question come up?

How do you ensure a keg is sealed?

People naturally carbonate in kegs for real ales, so kegs can seal without the initial burst of co2. It will take longer to carb and ensuring a tight seal to start takes some extra work. Keg lube and the dime idea are good ways to get a tight seal before the carbonation pressure takes hold.

    Keezer cycle time

If your on and off intervals are both accurate, your keezer must have a large compressor and terrible insulation. To have your temp rise by 9 deg F over 45 minutes is super fast. Even if I left my keezer open for 45 minutes it may not rise by 9 deg. To have it cool back down by 9 deg in 3 min is...

    Keezer cycle time

You make a good point about the thermal capacity of water v air. A good compromise would be to put the probe in a small volume of liquid (eg, a cup of water) to keep the freezer from coming on every time the lid is opened, while maintaning a more stable beer temp than if the probe were in a...

    4.7 cu ft chest freezer--keezer?

Cut out 2 9" circles, put them in the bottom of the freezer. If they don't overlap, you have yourself a potential 2-keg keezer.

    co2/regulator question

Thats the pressure in the tank pushing against the primary regulator. The number is nearly meaningless, as it has no bearing on the amount of co2 in the tank. Many of those who keg (myself included) ignore this number, and some don't bother to fix this gauge if it breaks. Yours may be right or...

Ready for first Brew......am I crazy?

Do not make a starter with dry yeast. These mumified yeast were not intended to be propagated in a starter before pitching into your wort. You can rehydrate the yeast before you pitch it (sprinkle onto a few ounces of room temp tap water and let sit for a few minutes to allow the yeast to soak...

    co2/regulator question

The pressure on the regulator has nothing to do with how full it is. The pressure will stay the same until the tank is nearly empty. The only reliable way to know how much CO2 you have is to weigh the tank and subtract the tare weight, which is stamped on the tank.

    Brewing Yeast, dumb questions !

Just add one more terrible idea to the pile.

    Belgian cork wire hoods

I got mine from NB. They work fine. I believe the standard number of turns is 7 half turns. If you're twisting more than that, it may be the source of your problem.

    Clean your kegs!

Is so easy and quick, there's no reason not to clean your kegs after every use.
