I know this is late, but last I visited ICD dave was working on an extract himself with a rotovap. You might want to email them and ask them about their process. Technical reserve is some pricey stuff though so use it in good health :) and find a way to reclaim it after evap.
This is a great build. I wonder if there was any way to attach a float valve inline to the gas in port etc, so you wouldn't have to scrap the keg. Additionally, adding a carbonator lid would allow you to have a gas in on the lid, a liquid out and a liquid in(repurposed gas in). Plus you would...
Good to know someone else is familiar with some elements of Kosher. Gelatin is a tricky issue but within the Orthodox world, there are mainstream organizations that will permit its consumption with the caveat that the cattle that it is prepared from was slaughtered according to kosher law. The...
So far my experiments with fish gelatin have not led to any success. I can't use beef as I have not been able to source a kosher version. I am considering trying to modify the technique and treat fish gelatin more like an isinglass clarifier and disperse it in cold acidified liquid.
I wonder if you could use a torpedo head shape instead of the ball. Its the same thing the ventmatic faucets do that makes them better then the perl model. You can see a diagram on williams brewing.
What was the total price on this build if I may ask?
If you make it with DNP you might not need the nutrients. I actually was thinking about doing this recently. I will probably give it a go. If you do as well please let us know how it turns out.
As blasphemous as this is there are reports of systems that use heaters and pumps that don't boil (picobrew zymatic) instead it brings it up to 207. Try this and see if that works for you.
I am in the same boat. This is a mad breakthrough thread. After thinking about how the picobrew doesn't boil the wort, I was considering creating a RIMS setup that didn't boil but only brought the temp high enough to isomerize the hop oils.
This however is making me wonder if I even have to do...
I am surprised I never posted on this thread as this technique is exactly how industry city distillery does their fermentation (basically a bioreactor with inline pumps)
Additionally, I would love to see how the IPA came out and if there were any clarity issues.
I will have to try the...
