    Aphids help!!

We bought a sack of ladybugs at the local garden store and put them all over our garden - no more holes in my hop leaves... and the tomatoes are doing great! Good luck!

    looking for pump input!

Excerpted from: http://pipeandhose.com/node/2 NPT vs. BSP Pipe While NPT threads are common in the United States, BSP threads are widely used in many other countries. •BSPT -British Standard Pipe Taper •BSPP -British Standard Pipe Parallel •NPT -National Pipe Taper...

    Standing Pilot for Automated MLT

Thanks for the link RK - in the search results that come up, it looks like I want this one. Not sure how I missed that at HD. Will have to give it a try this weekend. Hoppy - thanks for the uber safe valve link and reference images... if I were selling brewstands, I'd cover my ass too! :)...

    Standing Pilot for Automated MLT

Junkster: Care to share a link to what you have in mind here? The 'search' function was not my friend on this! Also - I appreciate all the safety concerns expressed by the responders, but I don't know who in their right mind would leave their brewstand unattended for more than a minute or...

    Standing Pilot for Automated MLT

I've been slowly upgrading my single-tier, 3-burner brewstand since I got it last year and now I'm stumped... I recently upgraded my mash burner with a solenoid valve (PID controlled) and a standing pilot (Honeywell Q314A). I'm running LP gas with a 40psi regulator. I have individual...

    Black Hops-Black Friday Sale

Seems to be conflicting info on this... I've read that Zythos is a blend, and I've also read the following from July, 2011: "Introducing, ZYTHOS The third and final release form Hopunion tells of yet another new variety that they will soon breed and offer brewers. They explain that the...

    Denver CMC group grain buy.

I missed out on the last one and can't imagine paying $65 for a sack of CMC pale at the LHBS... I'd be in for 200#... sounds like we might be at 1000# without trying too hard... I'll keep watching the board!! Cheers! Mike

Mash Control - Toe the Automation Line

fish - I'd love to go electric, but that would involve running a 220V line or two out to my garage... Considering a solenoid valve and pilot system will run less than $50, I think I'm going to stick with gas for this iteration... definitely interested in your implementation though... I'm...

Mash Control - Toe the Automation Line

Thanks for the reply Catt22... great to know I'm on the right path! Do you have any pictures of your implementation of the pilot system and/or your controller setup? I'm curious where you place the temp probe for the controller and what you did with the wiring to run the solenoid valve...

Mash Control - Toe the Automation Line

I've been brewing for 17 years... just went all grain this January. I've done 20 batches so far... and am really enjoying the improvement in quality and ease of experimentation. My biggest frustration with my 10-gallon gatoraid cooler mash tun is temperature control... I've had temperature...

    Pitchin' Dregs from Jolly Pumpkin

Just sent the picture to my wife (working in the lab tonight) - she says the sour pH looks like it's closer to 3 and the 'straight' batch is 4.5... sounds to me like it's time to get this sucker kegged!!

    Pitchin' Dregs from Jolly Pumpkin

3 weeks in and the dregs batch is starting to taste pretty good... you tell me... what's the pH? I think the dregs is about 3.5 and the bug-free is about 4.5... wish I could make a real measurement!! The SG hasn't moved in either batch in 2 weeks, so I think I'm going to rack the primary...

    Pitchin' Dregs from Jolly Pumpkin

Those posts were certainly interesting, but all discussed not getting discernible sourness for a few months... and the first post is about mold??? Definitely no mold going on here... and it's WAY sour after 2 weeks fermenting... Prion - the hardest part is going to be figuring out the right...
