    Group Buy in Chicago #8

It's my first time on this group buy. Do I need to do anything after I've loaded the order into my cart? Do we pay you after the order has been finalized and we have a shipping cost?

Wet hops: favor, aroma, or both?

I grow a ton of Nugget hops and right now I'm planning this year's fresh hop brew, most likely an all nugget IPA. I'm just trying to breakdown which additions I use wet and which I use dried. Also, yes I know ~5x weight for the wet v. dry. I've taken to the 60-10-0 schedule for my...

    Hop varieties NY state

In Buffalo I have a number of nugget plants that do phenomenal. I'd say centennial and cascade are probably good choices too not only because they do well, but they are much more frequently used. Centennial was actually in short supply this year.

Getting high attenuation from a lager yeast

FYI, when toasting your own malt you want to do it at least two weeks in advance. From John Palmer: The malt should be stored in a paper bag for 2 weeks prior to use. This will allow time for the harsher aromatics to escape. Commercial toasted malts are often aged for 6 weeks before sale...

    Pony eKeggle?

I'd have concerns about whether you would keep a smooth boil of 6+ gallons (your pre-boil volume) with only a single 2000W element. If you want a simpler/cheaper method than the PID, look into a PWM. There's a nice thread here. As far as the GFCI, lots of people use 50 amp "spa panels" that...

    Krausening to fix diacetyl

I still have a slant of the 2124 I can build up, I just wasn't sure if a kolsch yeast might be more aggressive in cleaning up the diacetyl. I'll give the 1L starter a shot. Does 62F sound right for the D-rest?

    All grain efficiency Q's

If you over-sparge you will extract tannins from the grain leading to astringency. I don't test pH, but I cut my sparges at 1.010 gravity. I really only have to top with water when I'm doing 90 minute boils to account for the extra boil loss.

    Krausening to fix diacetyl

I have a vienna lager fermented with Wyeast 2124 bohemian lager about 2 weeks into lagering. I did a d-rest but my hydro was off by 5 points and I think it was too late--lots of diacetyl. I'm going to try and fix it by krausening in some fermenting wort and was hoping for some feedback...

Pin lock post sets w/ poppets & new seals $10 each

I just converted 3 pin lock kegs to ball lock and figured I'd check if anyone wants the post sets here before they go to ebay. I have two sets for corny kegs (mid/right) and one set for firestone (left). Throwing in a new set of seals with each. Asking $10 per set shipped. UPDATE: Corny...

    Electric build instructable

I just wanted to share that I finished my electric build and documented the whole process in pretty explicit detail over on instructables.com. My goal was to put together a system as simple/cheap as possible. The whole thing including electric outlet installation ran me about $300. Hopefully...
