Second Krausen? Anybody had this happen?

It's Wyeast 1056 and not harvested, but washed from the trub of the prior batch (sorry, still learning terminology). I made a starter for it, so it was in good shape when it came time to pitch. Shake, shake, shake, bubble, bubble, bubble, then quiet, little shake, then BAM!:D

Second Krausen? Anybody had this happen?

Well, I didn't say I would dump it!:) My husband was freaking out about it and I tried to explain that it was probably nothing to worry about, but he wanted me to ask you guys, even after reading the 'Did I Ruin It?' and the 'NEVER Dump Your Beer' threads to him. Thanks, guys...

Second Krausen? Anybody had this happen?

I'm brewing a black ale with yeast harvested from the last batch of black ale. Everything went fine, fermentation started, krausen rose and fell, I shook it up a bit on day 3 to allow a friend to smell what comes out of the airlock. The next day, the krausen had risen again to the top of the...

    Cracking bottles

We DID have some of the caps cracking off. I think my husband may have taken it too far by 'double crimping' them.

    Cracking bottles

Just ever so slight cracks are showing up on the sides of the bottles. We are seriously going to try to finish it tonight. I have not checked the hydrometer like that. I'll do that tomorrow. Thank you.

    Cracking bottles

The bottles from the Red Ale we brewed are showing signs of distress. Fortunately, we love it and are trying our very best to finish it before we have exploding bottles. My first brew seems fine. What do you think happened? It was from a kit and the FG was supposed to be 19, but was 20...

First recipe OG of 91- Any thoughts?

Yes. It's five gallons. I'm sure it was about adding the additional water and not stirring well, then. Thank you.:D

First recipe OG of 91- Any thoughts?

I'm confused because of myself and the situation, not you.:D So, I've used various brew calcs and gotten an estimated OG of 50-57. So, that's closer, but still waaaaaay off. I can't seem to find any information on the impact of steeping times of those types of grains. Also, would the fact...

First recipe OG of 91- Any thoughts?

I'm confused. I'm really new at this. This was my third brew and the first two were kits. It's possible that we didn't get a good enough mix, I suppose.

First recipe OG of 91- Any thoughts?

I created my first recipe and brewed it last night. I used some ingredients that aren't available in the calculators, so I wasn't even able to get an estimated starting gravity. The OG was 91:eek: So, here's the recipe: Steeping Grains 45L German CaraMunich Malt 8 oz. 60...

    Brew Night #2

Well, we did OK, so far. Got it brewed. Cooled it and pitched in under 45 minutes (three water baths and a 'soup chiller' husband brought from work). It's in a swamp cooler (partly courtesy the Bud man) and registering 68 degrees. I want to go a bit cooler, but not too much. (We live in...

    Brew Night #2

:ban::ban::ban::ban::ban: I can't wait! Our second brew!!!! It's another William's kit and I am MUCH more prepared and relaxed than I was the first time. It's a Red Ale. I'm going to switch to Northern Brewer's kits next and, eventually, start doing my own thing. I just want to get a few...

    'Green Beer' from rainwater

I don't know what the various filters do. Some might add salt. I would get it more, if it were a place like the mountains, but in a city... All of that pollution is coming down in the rain. I don't know... Maybe I'll go there and try one of their brews.
