Saison - pellicle or yeast rafts?

Quick update - the beer does taste great, maybe not as good as it could have been but still very tasty. I have shared with people who don’t realize there was any contamination until I mention afterwards, although maybe the saison character hides it. One other thing to note is the color - I...

Saison - pellicle or yeast rafts?

Thanks all, this was very helpful. It seems like I do in fact have my first infected batch. I tasted the somewhat carbed beer last night and it actually tastes great (so far). I will just have to drink quickly. I also reached out to Drew directly, and he noted that he will usually replace with...

Saison - pellicle or yeast rafts?

Thanks for the detailed write up! I pitched 3.5 weeks ago, fermented at 65 for 4 days, let free rise to room temp (70) for a week, then slowly ramped to 80 using a heat wrap and left for another week or so. During the entire process, I left the sanitized foil on without an airlock, thinking...

Saison - pellicle or yeast rafts?

Sorry for bad pics, here is a closeup of the troubling bubbles. I did a fair bit of googling and found nothing that quite looks like this. Agree that pellicles look much more developed, but other yeast raft pictures look much more benign than mine...

Saison - pellicle or yeast rafts?

To be honest, this isn’t the first time I’ve been worried about an infection, but this might be the one that actually is. Saison fermented with WLP565, “open” fermentation with a piece of foil covering the grommet on my bucket lid, as suggested by Drew Beecham for this particular yeast strain...

    Using 3787 Yeast Cake

I am planning on kegging a light Belgian beer (Wheat extract with a pound of Caravienne) I brewed a couple weeks ago and used 3787 Trappist yeast. The beer was 1.040, and the yeast was about 6 months old so I made a 2L starter. Given the cost and effort to build up this yeast, I was thinking...

Faucet Adapter - Home Depot can't help, can you?

Problem finally solved - it has the threading of a flare fitting. However, there isn't really room for the flare itself, so it doesn't screw in fully, but I get at least a full rotation, more than any of the other fittings I tried. Appreciate all the suggestions.

Faucet Adapter - Home Depot can't help, can you?

It doesn't really thread on, I get maybe a quarter of a turn.

Faucet Adapter - Home Depot can't help, can you?

My landlord just renovated the kitchen in my apartment, and I now have a new sink/faucet with a different size threading (pic below) that I am having trouble connecting to my immersion chiller. (I am sure I am the only one in the building complaining about my brand new sink). Home Depot helped...

Hefeweizen - too much acid malt?

Having trouble figuring out what went wrong with my first hefeweizen. I feel like I got the typical hefe aroma I was looking for, but the taste is off - I want to call it "tart," but not sure that's the best word to describe it. In general, it's a bit thin and lifeless, but this could also be...
