Good to hear this worked out for you. I have a keg that may need some tweaking and was thinking of doing something similar to add a little more bitterness.
This is what I did for my last 2 batches. I think I like the results so far but I really cant do a side by side comparison. Previously I was dropping in the zero minute hops and turning on the chiller right away. It is interesting to hear what other people are doing.
Hey guys, I know everyone does things different, But I am interested in what people do for zero minute hop additions. Do you add the hops and immediately and start to cool your batch? I seem to recall commercial brewers would transfer to whirlpool at this stage. What do you guys think would...
I usually cool off my batch a bit first, then I put the hop bag in a strainer (at around 170 deg) to drain for a few minutes over the keggle while I continue to run my immersion cooler. I end up giving the bag a good squeeze with bare hands (clean mind you). Sometimes a bit hot but I've had a...
Seems to me that the only sanitary weld of a coupler to a keg would be welding from the inside, and I don't know anyone that does that. Maybe someone with more welding exp. could speak to that tho.
What you are seeing is most likely minerals that have precipitated from your water, not oxi-clean. Rinse with Star-san and you should be good to go. No worries. :)
Just another reason to use StarSan over Iodophor... well just assuming, but I really hope it was StarSan since you said you are going to drink it anyways.:mug:
I don't direct fire my MLT and wanted better performing insulation than the refletix stuff I see a lot of people use. I found that the 2' x 4' sheets of 1/2" polystyrene insulation at Home Depot are flexible enough to be wrapped around a keg(and they are real cheap, about $2 ea.). I used 2...
I forgot to say that I'm using a mini fridge for cooling rated at 1.4A. I've controlled it with a 10 relay already so I know that the switching should be OK.
Can someone measure the OD of the temp sensor? I wanna use it in one of the thermowells from Brewers Hardware if it will fit.
I'm looking for a temperature controller for my fermentation chamber. This one only displays temp in deg. C (not a big problem) but it has a heating and cooling stage which is a requirement for my needs. Anyone using one of these...
Some of those Belgian yeasts take a long time to finish fermenting. I have a Saison (OG 1.072) using Wyeast 3726 which I thought was done after 2 weeks (1.010 gravity). I racked to a corny and noticed it was still building pressure. I now have 1.005 gravity at week 3 and it may not be done...
I did end up putting a little of the harvested yeast back into my two cornies and I have let these sit at room temp for about a week now. I pull the pressure relief valve about once a day and I've for gas coming out so they must be fermenting albeit slowly. I just checked the gravity an it's...
